Essex Championships Day One – Thurrock Monday 5th May 2007

There were eleven medals, two of them gold, as the first day of the Essex Championships took place in hot but breezy conditions at Thurrock on Sunday.

Once again the throwers led the way. Sophie Baggs took U15 discus gold as Lannahn Leary-Kiernan and Debbie Knight took silver and bronze with Shelley Wilson and Erin Baggs also in the top seven.

Kike Oniwinde added the U17 javelin gold to her U15 title last year and Debbie Knight added javelin bronze in the u15 event. Her older sister Katherine went one better with U17 discus silver in a new PB.

There were three 1500m medals, two silver, one bronze. Ellie Bounds had to settle for silver against Thurrock’s Jessica Judd in the U15 event, and Zoey Littlechild was runner up for second year in the U17 equivalent. Fast improving Freddy Keefe showed promise with his bronze in the U13 boys event.
