A gold-silver-bronze 1500m success from Faye Fullerton, Alexa Joel & Sara Luck capped a fine day of excellent performances and good conditions at the Essex Championships at Basildon this weekend Faye’s victory came from a devastating last two laps after a pedestrian opening 700m with no one prepared to take over the pace. The Havering trio then went away and Faye’s finishing speed – including a 64 seconds last lap - took her to gold. Another 1500m gold came by way of Matt Bland who defended his title in the veterans event, The best individual clutch of medals came from Jimi Tele who won U15 long & triple jumps and added 100m bronze. The javelin again was a happy hunting ground. Bonne Buwembo smashed the Championships best in the U20 javelin for gold. Emma Christmas’ last gasp throw edged club mate Louise Mathews out of gold, adding over two metres to her PB in the process. Bradley Burr & Georgie Bean also made it a one-two in the U17 event. Nicola Hill's 400m PB earned her U20 gold on Saturday and on Sunday she overhauled team mate Lisa Schofield in the 400m Hurdles for another 1-2. Other hurdles silver medals came from Claire Brennan (100H), Jack Edgar –Hill (U17 – 100H) and Adam McCarthy U17 – 400H, with Kieran Nelson third in the same race. Angela James added U17 80m hurdles bronze. Luke Stott (400m) and Ross Clarke (5000) added two more senior golds, as did Rob Warner who defended his steeplechase title. More golds went to Kate Cowley (HJ) & Vincent Lazaro (U20 - LJ). Silver service was provided by Mel Harrison (DT & SP), Claire Brennan (100H), Lucy Sargent (100m), Kate Cowley (again - LJ), Andrew Lewis (U17 - 400m) . More silverware went to Laurence Goodacre (U17 - SP), Joseph Ramie (U20 - TJ), Eleanor Bounds (U15 - 800m) and Amy Cox (U17 HT). Bronze medals went to Ashley Purnell (U15B LJ), Daniel Gamester (HT), Joseph Ramie (U20 – LJ), Danielle Ross (PV) and Sam Harrison (SM - JT). |
