RESULTS

It was the most successful opening day of the Essex Championships for several years as club athletes racked up 10 golds and five bronze medals at the Day One events Chelmsford on Monday.

Alex Law continues to hit the headlines as he became U13 county champion in all three events he contested. He opened with a discus win and went on to comfortably add gold medals with commanding victories in the 75m hurdles and 200m. Alex now tops the national hurdles rankings and is runner up in the discus as well as sixth in both 100 & 200. Jordan Fox won 200m bronze.

The discus events provided a massive medal haul. As well as Law’s U13 boys’ discus gold, Georgie Taylor won the U13 girls’ equivalent with a new best of 27.23m, runner up on the club all-time lists and fourth best in the UK this year.  Dan Wilson was victorious in the U15 boys discus and bronze medals in this event also went to Laurence Goodacre (U17M), Debbie Knight (U15G) and Rebecca Fox (U13G).

The gold rush continued in the 1500m as Freddy Keefe stretched his lead at the top of the U13 boys’ national rankings to run away with gold and move up to seventh on the club all time rankings. Eleanor Bounds similarly made all the running in the U17Women’s 1500m to slice five seconds off her best to add gold.

Club athletes won both girls’ javelin golds as both Kike Oniwinde (U17W) and Debbie Knight (U15B) both launched the spear further than their competitors.
