Essex Cross Country League, Stubbers, Upminster, 1 December 2001

Havering Mayesbrook exploited home advantage with an impressive series of successes in the third round of the Essex League in muddy conditions at Stubbers, Upminster today.  Four individual and four team victories continued the club's strong showing in the league.

Katie Richardson continued her unbeaten league record with run-away victory in the under 13 girls' event and also led her team to success. Fast-improving Georgina Clark was with the early pace but held on well for sixth, a big improvement from 12th last time out, with newcomer Rebecca Heath placing 11th, ahead of Lauren Clark, runner up last time but who had to settle for 14th after feeling unwell before the start. Four other club athletes completed the course.

Next on were the U13 boys who also took individual and team honours. Unbeaten Ashley Reece, continued his dominance of this age group, and was an untroubled winner, ahead of teammate Ross Clarke.  Matthew Watkins suffered the effects of a morning schools rugby match and was way down on his usual top-three placing in 12th. With Joe Webster not far back in 4th HMAC took the team prize, with three other finishers

Charlotte Watkins, also a winner in the last round, repeated her success in the under 15 girls' event, taking the race on early and moving away mid race. In contrast Megan Foley took it easy over the first half and moved through from half way to take second, leaving herself too much to do to catch her team mate. Robyn Matson continued her good form in fourth with Vicky Smith in 13th, completing the scoring four with 20 point total. Carmel Munson (14th) and Robyn Delivett (16th), were well placed, and Laura Moore (20th), and Charlene Glover (24th) also finished..

Debbie Sullivan powered to another victory in the Senior Women's race, over a minute clear of her nearest challenger, Colchester's Grace Greenhalgh. Hayley Hawes was ninth for the third successive race, while the scoring four were competed by veterans Ruth O'Sullivan (21st) and Dawn Hawes (24th), placing second in the team event.

In the boys' u15 event Joe Golding was first home in 8th, with Ashley Roberts 11th. The team placed third, thanks to Christian Newton 17th and Martyn Chambers 22nd. There was good packing in the u17 event as the five team members placed between 7th and 14th with Martin Heys (7th - see photo right), Rob Howe (8th), Andrew Hunter (10th), Darryl Rogers (12th) and Tom Bond (14th), taking an unexpected team prize.

The senior men secured third with a series of solid performances. Graham Pritchard featured prominently early on and held on for his highest ever placing of 9th, while Matt Bland finished 15th. Neill Collins was just ahead of Rob Warner in 27h and 28th respectively, while Gary Howard (40th) and Tony Collins (43rd) made up the scoring six-some.
