The fourth round of the Essex
Cross Country League at Hockley today hosted by Southend, brought another strong performance from
Havering Mayesbrook athletes with individual wins in three categories, as well
as three team successes.
With the event sandwiched between
last week's county championships and the Essex Schools Championships next week,
several young athletes decided to rest this weekend. But those who turned up
ensured that the standards of previous three rounds were maintained.

Story of the day went to Faye
Fullerton (pictured) who comfortably won the combined U20/U17 ladies
event before turning out minutes later in the senior ladies event in which
she was also first home! Jo
Sullivan's return from injury continued with her second placing, with Hayley Hawes
(8th), Dawn Hawes (20th) and Eleanor Mole (21st) completing
the scoring four.
There were individual wins in
both U13 and U15 girls' events. Katie Richardson, runaway winner of the county
title 7 days before, repeated the feat, with Lauren Clark two places back in
third. Hayley Thomas made the top ten in 9th, as did an improved Lauren McVicar
one place behind her in 10th, with an unbeatable 13 point team result.
The B team of Claire Robinson (19th), Hannah Charman (25th), Rachel Newman
(26th) and Alex Watkins also did well.

In the under 15 girls race Megan Foley continued her
return to form, with an individual win to add to her county success the
week before. Teammate Robyn Matson who placed
fifth, with Vicky Smith (11th) and Robyn Delivett (15th) completed the scoring four whose
32 point total was good enough to win. Laura Moore (20th) also took
part. Faye Powell was the only HMAC competitor in the U17 girls
race, coming home 11th. |
| With Ashley Reece nursing a knee injury, and Ross Clarke
and Matthew Watkins also missing the race, it was left to Joe Webster in
11th, Grant Twist (20th) and Tony Chambers (25th) to fly the flag for the
club. Only three team members also took part in the U15 boys race with Ashley Robert
first home in 11th, Martyn Chambers 21st and Christian Newton 25th. The
club members were even thinner on the ground in the U17 men's race but quality
made up for quantity as Rob Howe and Andrew Hunter were both well placed
in 6th and 7th respectively.
The senior men were the only male HMAC squad to have a complete team. Graham
Pritchard placed an excellent 8th and Rob Dickenson was not far behind, placing
10th in his first cross country race of the season. Rob Warner continued
to improve in 22nd, again beating teammate Matt Bland, who was 23rd. The
six strong team was completed by brothers Neil and Tony Collins in
45th and 60th respectively.
