Essex Cross Country League, Colchester, 16 February 2002

Vicky Smith took full advantage of the absence of her team mates to notch a stunning individual win in the Under 15 girls race in the fifth and final round of the Essex Cross Country League at Colchester on Saturday.  

Normally the fourth or fifth scorer Vicky found herself first choice as a fixture clash with an Inter-County Schools meeting deprived the club of the services of Sara Luck, Charlotte Watkins and Robyn Matson, while Megan Foley was unwell. 

Vicky responded to the challenge in style to come home in first place, while Carmel Munson, Charlene Glover and Robyn Delivett provided good support to claim the team honours on the day. The club also collected the League team trophy as the unbeaten winning team over the five fixtures.

Team honours also went to the Under 13 girls, who made light of the absence of Katie Richardson and Lauren Clark. Clare Robinson was first home in fifth, with Georgina Clark (7th) and Hayley Thomas (8th) also claiming top ten finishes. The team also won the league prize, matching the performance of their older colleagues in winning all five fixtures.

In the u13 boys Ashley Reece, although not fully over the flu that brought a below par result in last week's Inter County Champs, still did enough to win both on the day and also to confirm his individual league title.  Matthew Watkins was runner-up on the day and placed third over the season. Joe Webster in 8th was the only other HMAC competitor, as the team placed third and claimed the team honours for the season. 

The senior men were again the only male HMAC squad to field a complete team as Graham Pritchard placed 13th with Rob Dickenson three places back in 16th. Graham's consistent results over the season earned home third place in the league stakes.
