Essex Cross Country League, Round 2,
Basildon, 28 October 2006
|
There was no repeat of the superb team results which brought five wins in six age groups in the first round of the Essex Cross Country, but two team wins, two seconds and three thirds were a good return for the club athletes' efforts at Basildon in round 2.

The u13 girls again swept to victory despite missing two of their first round scorers. Rebecca O'Neill (3rd), newcomer Rachel Sadler (7th), much improved Nancy Kane (10th) and Becky Stanley (12th) were comfortable winners and were followed home by seven other club athletes.
The powerful u15 girls also triumphed as impressive runs from Jennifer Holland (2nd), Zoey Littlechild (3rd)and Sidnie Sales (4th) set up victory Jade Timothy's 15th place ensured a 12 point cushion over Chelmsford.
Both U17 squads were runners up as Jade Edwards' much improved performance placed her second and good runs from Christina Holland (7th), Ingrid Deane (14th) and Alex Beard (15th) fell just two points short of Basildon's winning total in the combined U17/U20 Women's category.
For the U17 Men Grant Twist's third place led home the squad with Rob Jones (5th) and Daniel Winters (7th) not far back and Anthony Soar's 17th place confirming team second. It might have been first as Matt Bloy, who was third in round one, dropped out when occupying the same position this time.
There were third place finishes for three teams. Ryan O'Mahoney's fourth place was best for the u13 boys, and Tyler Bennett (16th), Jonathan Seekings (18th) and Thomas Davies (20th) completed the scoring quartet.
Michael Jones' 8th place finish led home the third finishing u15 boys. Daniel Shanney (14th), Callum Sutton (15th) and John Whitehead (18th) packed well but Chelmsford & Basildon battled it out for first.
The senior men had most of their heavy guns back in action and improved to place a close third. An impressive run brought Trevor Keys 5th place and Rob Warner improved to 9th, both making the top 10 and a good run took Matt Bland to 15th. A solid run placed Martin Chester 32nd and Tony Collins (40th) and Ian Anthony (43rd) did well against strong opposition to make up the scoring six with nine other finishers. Glen Hill & Rob Dickenson dropped out on the second lap when well placed.
Lauren Deadman was again third as the senior women placed sixth, with stalwarts Denise Harris, Lesley Felton and Linda Smith completing the team. |
