Essex Cross Country League, Round 4,
Hylands Park, Chelmsford, 16 December 2006
|
There were two individual victories and another team success at round 4 of the Essex Cross Country League at Hylands Park Chelmsford on Saturday. It was another strong showing from club teams who are well positioned for the overall league title, leading the table in three age groups, and second in four others Former English Schools 3000m Champion Lauren Deadman returned to winning ways as she raced to victory in the senior women's event. She is improving as the season goes on, having placed third in both the first and second rounds and winning this time, and is now in a three-way battle with Colchester's Sarah Stradling & Margaret Deasy for the league title. Lesley Felton (38th), Linda Smith (49th) and Angela Thompson (50th) completed the scoring quartet, who placed sixth. Georgie Sales was also victorious in the U17/U20W race, winning by over 20 secs as team-mate with Hayley Stibbs, home after her first term at Loughborough, third. Christina Holland's 10th place and Alex Beard's 13th ensured second team spot. The U13 Girls provided the only team victory to maintain their unbeaten league record and set up a winning lead in the league title stakes. Eleanor Bounds & Rebecca O'Neill were again second & third and with Rachel Sadler fifth and with Becky Stanley sixth the team win was a formality. Rob Jones had his best run by far this winter with an excellent 2nd place, in the U17M event, closely followed by Michael Donavan improving to 4th now that he seems to have shaken off his knee problem. Robbie Kidd finished in 18th place but unfortunately Grant Twist had to drop out with breathing difficulties. The team therefore had to settle for second behind Colchester and these two teams will battle it out for the league title in the fifth and final round. league title . Jennifer Holland & Sidnie Sales came home third & fourth in the U15G event but after winning the first three rounds could only place third this time, as Emma Fox (18th) and Jade Timothy (21st) completed the scoring. The team still top the table and a good result in the final round should ensure the title.
The U13 Boys
bounced back after a 7th place at
Hockley with an excellent second place behind Southend. Ryan O'Mahoney
again led the team home in fifth running well to finish just ahead of
Tyler Bennett whose 8th was his best place so far. The team was brought
home with good runs from Jonathon Seekings and Thomas Davis in 12th and
17th respectively.
An improved overall performance brought the U15 Boys second place behind Chelmsford. Michael Jones led the team home in a tough race to finish 9th, just ahead of the consistent Daniel Shanney in 10th and Thomas Shanney in 12th for his best finish of the season. The team was closed by John Whitehead making a welcome return from illness in 16th. The team was well supported by a further 9 finishers. Once again the senior men showed their strength in numbers with five finishers in the top twenty-one to place team runners up and are also second in the league table. Trevor Keys and Rob Warner maintained their high standard to lead the team home in 5th and 12th respectively. Steve Rand improved on his last outing to take 16th and Mat Bland continued his fine form to finish 19th. The late withdrawal of Glen Hill was covered well by Jason Lendon with a strong run to take 21st. Ian Anthony ran well to take the sixth scoring place in 35th and there were 9 other finishers, 15 in all.
