But the depleted senior ladies were unable to repeat their win the first round last month and could only finish seventh in the team stakes, as Hayley Stibbs (16th) and veterans Angela Thompson (52nd) & Linda Smith (57th) completed the scoring four.
There were again team victories for all three girls' young athletes teams who are already well on the way to league titles.. Improving Amanda Blaxland's second place set up a big 20 point win for the u13 girls. She was second in a tight finish for the minor placings behind Thurrock's dominant Jessica Judd. Four other HMAC athletes made the top ten, with Becky Stanley fourth, Shannon Sullivan 7th and Avril Loynes completing the scorers in ninth with Hannah Bloy finishing tenth. Jenny Harries was 27th. Sidnie Sales' second place in the u15 girls' event also led the way to a team victory with all four scorers making the top 10. Well matched Rachel Sadler & Amber Turner were sixth and seventh, while Rebecca O'Neill, who has bee unwell, a tentative tenth. With first round winner Eleanor Bounds not taking part the HMAC 25 point winning margin could have been even bigger. Michelle Lovell (28th) also took part. Jenny Holland was first scorer for the victorious U17/U20 women in eighth, with Zoey Littlechild one place back and Alex Beard a(16th) and Katie Richardson (17th) the other scorers. Christina Holland was 23rd. With first round winner Georgie Sales not in action and a a promising run in sixth from Coopers' Coburn student Gemma Phillips who is awaiting clearance to compete for club teams, this age group looks strong. Ross Clarke's third place in the senior men's event was the first of many good results contributing to the team who just missed their first top spot for several years, eventually having to settle for second place, just f our points adrift of Colchester Harriers. After dropping out when well placed in round one, Ross made no mistake this time to finish third, and strong runs from Rob Warner (13th) and Glen Hill (14th) also made the top 15. Matt Bland showed good form in 18th, and the returning Peter Coates (33rd) and Trevor Keys (42nd) completed the scoring six. Nine other club runners made it an impressive fifteen finishers with Rob Dickenson 51st just in front of vet Paul Berrett one place behind, with U20 Rob Jones 58th. Tony Collins 962nd) , Chris Coates (74th) and Russ Middleton (84th) all making the top 100. The senior vets were led home by 72 year old Len Parrott finished in front of almost 40 other runners in 134th, with "younger" 50+ vets Steve Kane (160th) and Martin McVeigh (162nd). Second claim James Connor (Kent AC) ran as a guest and finished in 10th place
Grant Twist's best performance in the U17 Men's race for some while saw him leading for much of the race and eventually brought him second place finish as the second placed team closed the gap on Basildon. The Shanney twins, Thomas (8th) and Danny (11th) were next home and Simon Brown (17th) completed the scoring quartet. There were third places for both the U13 and U15 boys. A consistent team performance from the U13 boys with saw Thomas Davis in 8th finish one place ahead of Ryan O'Mahoney in the top 10 with Tyler Bennett (15th) and Finbar Smyth (19th) the other scorers. James Conlon (32nd) and Andrew Holland (36th) also came home. The U15 boys improved one place in the team stakes after fourth place in round one, with Jamie Buckley-Stanton having an excellent run with fourth place. Liam Bush (16th), Mike Jones (19th) and Charlie Turner (23rd) scored, and six other boys including several newcomers, gave hope for continued improvement at Basildon in round three on 24th.
