Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Basildon, 24 November 2007

Wins for Lauren Deadman (SW), Georgie-Lou Sales (U17-U20) and Ellie Bounds (U15G) were among the highlights of the third round of the Essex League, held at Gloucester Park, Basildon on Saturday. But of the three unbeaten female teams, only the U15 girls team were able to repeat their first and second round victories.

Lauren Deadman's second successive win in the senior women's event puts her top of the individual stakes. She finished 42 seconds clear of the rest and behind her Debbie Appleton showed she is on the way back to fitness with a great third place. Her younger sister Jo Sullivan had her first outing this winter in 22nd and veteran Linda Smith completed the scoring team in 49th, for a third place team finish. The team share second place in the table with Colchester & Tendring.

In the combined Under 17/20 women Georgie Sales turned the tables on Colchester's Laura Condron, who had won the first two rounds, winning by a comfortable 13 seconds. Katie Richardson took a further step closer to fitness in 13th, and Jennifer Holland (16th) and Jade Edwards (22nd) completed the scoring team,  who had to concede victory to Basildon. Alex Beard two places further back in 24th while non-scorer Gemma Phillips was 11th.

Ellie Bounds had a winning return after missing round two in the Under 15 Girls' race to repeat her first round victory and lead the only team win on the day.Sidnie Sales, Rachel Sadler & Rebecca O'Neill packed sixth to eighth places for an emphatic team win. Amber Turner (15th), Sharmila Golan (19th) and Michelle Lovell (31st) also took part.

The Under 13 Girls lost their unbeaten records but still top the table. Becky Stanley & Amanda Blaxland were third & fourth in the race with Hannah Bloy (10th) and Avril Loynes (16th) the other scorers, as the team were pipped for victory by Southend.

The Under 17 Men again finished as second team. Grant Twist finished a good fifth, closely followed by Daniel Winters in seventh in his first race of the season, with good support form Daniel and Thomas Shanney in 12th and 14th.

Jamie Buckley-Stanton had an excellent race to finish 3rd in the Under 15 boys' event, ably supported by Liam Bush in 16th, Michael Jones 18th and Dean Leftley in 28th bringing the team home in fourth. Five other club U15s completed the testing course.

Ryan O'Mahoney ran an improved race to lead the Under 13 boys' team home in seventh place, with Thomas Davis 14th, Tyler Bennett 15th and Luke Overton 31st providing good support for a team fourth place. They were closely followed by Finbar Smyth in 32nd and three other boys finished.

Late withdrawals robbed the senior men of a winning potential. With only two of the last outing's scorers in the team, the squad had to dig deep and still managed a creditable third. Rob Warner led the team home with a season's best eighth place and Steve Rand also made the top 20 with a good 17th. Peter Coates and Rob Dickenson continued to improve with a fine 25th  and good 40th place, with the strong running Martin Chester not far behind in 43rd. Chris Coates completed the scoring team with a much improved 48th.

Paul Berrett 56th led a trio of Havering runners with Russ Middleton 57th and Rob Jones 58th. Graham Hogan finished 68th, Roger Winston 111th , Len Parrot 125th , Michael Meehan 138th, and Martin McVeigh 148th completed the fourteen Havering finishers.
