Making her first league appearance this winter, Alexa Joel came home almost a minute ahead of overall senior women’s league leader and club mate Lauren Deadman whose second place keeps her on top of the individual stakes and looking good for the league title. Debbie Appleton was seventh this time out and her sister Jo Sullivan's battling 26th place completed the scoring four which missed out on victory by just two points, with Angie Thompson 35th. A nail biting finale to the season’s title race is on the cards in the final fixture as the Southend, Colchester and Havering Mayesbrook teams within three points of each other. In the U15 girls’ race Ellie Bounds maintained her unbeaten record to make it a hat-trick of league wins with a comfortable victory and extend her title lead. Once the scoring four all made the top eight with a massive winning margin thanks to the reliable strength of Sidnie Sales fourth, Rachel Sadler 6th & Amber Turner 8th. The team have an almost unbeatable lead going into the final fixture. The winning U13 girls quartet were all in the top 10. Amanda Blaxland and Becky Stanley continued their excellent form in third and fifth respectively. As usual they received consistent support from Shannon Sullivan 7th & Hannah Bloy 10th completing the winning quartet, to give an 18 point wining margin, with Avril Loynes 15th, Jenni Harries 27th and newcomer Kylie Trott 32nd. The U13s also look well placed for the league title. The U13 boys’ team earned a good second through good packing. Ryan O'Mahoney, Thomas Davis and Tyler Bennett hogged the places between 10th and 12th and Finbar Smyth in 27th completed the team, with Andrew Holland also running. The U17/U20 women held on to their league lead despite having to settle for second place on the day. Winner last time Georgie-Lou Sales was fifth this time, with Jennifer Holland (12th), Katie Richardson (19th) and Alex Beard (22nd ) making up the team The other teams could not match this level of success however and the other male teams placed fourth or fifth. Jamie Buckley-Stanton again third in the U15 boys, but with several regulars missing they suffered their lowest finish of the season in fifth, and just hold onto third place in the table. Dean Leftley (18th), Charlie Turner (20th) and Ross Earney (25th) were the scorers and Jonathan Seekings completed the scorers in 29th. Grant Twist was seventh U17 men, U17 unfortunately Daniel Winters pulled hamstring and had to drop out leaving Grant, along with Daniel and Thomas (who placed 9th and11th) without a fourth scorer A below par Rob Warner led the senior men’s team home again in 19th place, closely followed by Matt Bland, first Vet finisher in 21st and a strong running Peter Coates in 22nd. A great run by Rob Jones 37th with Chris Coates 38th and Rob Dickenson just behind in 43rd completed the fourth placed scoring team. Although missing many of their top athletes the team still managed a squad of twelve. Paul Berrett made the top fifty with another fine run in 46th with Graham Hogan not far behind in 52nd. Tony and Neill Collins found the cold and tricky course hard to come in 75th and 88th respectively. Roger Winston continued to improve with a sound 97th and Martin McVeigh completed the squad in119th place. |
