There was another good turnout in the second round of the Essex Cross Country League, which took place at Hockley on Saturday. Lauren Deadman took a step towards retaining her Essex League individual title with a victory in the Senior Women's race, for the club’s only first individual or team first place of the day. |

Against a strong senior women’s field . Lauren led from start to finish in a fine exhibition of front running, winning by some 15 seconds. First round victor Debbie Appleton ran well to achieve 7th place, with Jane Hallam (46th) and Angie Thompson (56th) completing the team for 6th place.
Also second were the under 13 boys. Nick Shade and Freddie Keefe were fourth and fifth and Nick Duffey (12th) and Finbar Smythe (21st) completed the scoring quartet. Charles Hammond (35th), Thomas Pitkin (38th) and James Wright (39th) got their first taste of cross country competition and ran very well in a field of 44.
In the under 15 girls race Rachel Sadler achieved a good 9th place. She was followed closely by Rebecca Stanley (12th) and supported by Amanda Blaxland (18th), Shannon Sullivan (21st) and Sarah Busby (30th). The team was placed third against a Southend team which dominated the higher places. Again the under 17/20 women raced well as a team with our scorers coming in 10th to 14th. Zoey Littlechild led the way with a good 10th place and very closely followed by Amber Turner (11th), Katie Richardson (13th) and Jennifer Holland (14th). Michelle Lovell (28th) completed the team which finished third place team. Callum Sutton, in the
U17 men race had a superb run against top opposition to
come third.
Daniel Shanney was a fine fifth, twin Thomas was 11th and Joseph Waked
(19th) completed the scorers and George Jones also ran. Overall the U17 team is performing very well and
hope to carry on as they have started. Rob Warner kept up his impressive start to the season with another strong top ten finish in the senior men's event. Grant Twist worked hard to take a good 19th place with Steve Rand nearly catching him in 20th. Peter Coates improved greatly to take a very good 22nd. Matt Bland still on the come back trail, was just outside the top thirty in 31st . Rob Dickenson with another good run completed the scoring team in 42nd for third in the team stakes. Ian Anthony returning from injury did well to take 56th followed home by Paul Berrett 68th and Neill Collins 69th. It was good to see Trevor Keys returning after a long lay off placing 74th with Russ Middleton not far behind in 80th. The line up was completed by Derek Earney in 180th. Link to Full Results |
