Essex Cross Country League, Round 1, One Tree Hill, 10 October 2009

Harriet Scott's excellent second place finish saw the senior ladies team storm to victory as the cross country season got under way with the first round of the Essex League in warm and testing conditions at One Tree Hill.

Sara Luck followed closely with a fine fifth place while Debbie Appleton made a welcome return from injury to make it three in the top 10. Angie Thompson produced her best run to date in  36th place to ensure victory by four points from Basildon. Jane Hallam (52nd) and Linda Smith also returned from injury in 60th to complete the line up.

Three young athletes teams claimed second spots on a good start for club teams.

The U13 Girls got the day's proceedings underway to take second place ahead of Southend. Lydia Hallam was a good fourth with newcomer Heidi Surman-Wells impressing in eighth.  Rebecca Christmas (26th) and another debutant Amy Baggs (39th) were the scorers and Georgie Taylor, Rebecca Fox and Thiziri Dendani also saw action.

The U13 Boys had the best turn out of the day with eleven athletes, the majority new to cross country, toeing the line achieving a fine runners up position.  Freddy Keefe continued his return from injury to place seventh and two places back was the improving Sean Wilson.  Robert Woodgate in 18th and Adam Hill in 23rd were the other scorers and Sam Thompson, Charles Hammond, Nick Wade, Scott Fraser, William Hart and Jordan Fox also completed the course but Lewis Middleton's knee injury prevented him finishing.

Matt Bland held his form in 22nd, followed by Paul Berrett (43rd) and Graham Hogan (45th).
