Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Hockley Woods, 28 November 2009

A win for the U15 Boys, and second places for theU17 men and U17/20 ladies were the team highlights at Saturday's Essex XC league at Hockley.

The Under 15 boys had a great result, beating Southend by 10 points to lift themselves to second in the league table.  Hoseah Gikungu had his best run of the season, completing the course in third place and with Ryan O'Mahoney in 6th and nick shade 10th, Thomas Davis' 16th place secured a comfortable victory, although Shade's ankle injury as he sprinted across the line took some shine off things. Josh Conners & Nick Duffey provided back up.

Jamie-Buckley-Stanton's fine form continued and his superb runners-up spot in the U17 Men's race was the best individual result on the day as the team were edged out of the victory honours by a single point. Joseph Waked was seventh and Adam Edwards in 13th and Massi Dendani in 16th completed the scoring quartet, with Ross Earney and Chris Hyde also competing.

The Under 17/Under 20 Women were also second thanks to solid results from Gemma Phillips (9th), Jade Edwards (15th) with Rachel Sadler (17th) and Patsy McWeeney not far behind them  Shraila Golan also saw action.

Lydia Hallam had a fine run for the Under 13 girls placing fourth. Heidi Surman Wells also made the top 10 and Francesca Smith (17th) and Amy Baggs (32nd) made up the scoring four who placed a close third, with Thiziri Dendani completing the squad.

The Under 13 boys held onto third in the table despite an incomplete team as George Dixoin was unable to finish due to an ankle injury. Adam Hill (17th) , Fraser Scott (25th) and Albert Stokes (39th) were the finishers.  Run of the day was Ben Haynes, who was allowed to take part as an under age runner was allowed to take part but had to pull out before crossing the line. Had he finished he would have been 15th.

Bethany Hall's fine debut sixth place for the Under 15 girls was supported by Amanda Blaxland's 10th, with Lindsay McLachlan 17th & Shannon Sullivan 20th bringing home the scoring four into fourth place. A good turn out saw four other finishers - Avril Loynes 21st, Rosie Brett 25th, Hannah Bloy 31st and Lindsey Wiggins 38th.

The senior men’s team also remain in third in the league after a disappointing fourth place led home by a below par Rob Warner in 14th place. A good run by Steve Rand saw him finish just behind Warner in 17th. Mat Bland was the first vet home in 21st with Callum Sutton making the top thirty in 29th. Daniel Shanney in his second senior race made a big improvement by taking 50th with Neill Collins completing the scoring team in 53rd. Graham Hogan 58th and Paul Berrett 74th were vying for scoring places until near the finish. Derick Earney completed the squad in 176th

The senior women’s team slipped off top spot in the absence of their top names. Jo Sullivan, Jane Hallam, Linda Smith & Anne Gifford - all in the masters category - rallied to club colours to place 10th and  the club are now fifth in the table.
