Essex Cross Country League, Round 4, Epping Forest, 12 December 2009

A convincing victory by Harriet Scott, her second of the season, confirmed her Essex League leadership and a second victory by the U15 Boys, were the highlights as round 4 of the Essex Cross Country League took place at Epping Forest on Saturday.

 

Harriet Scott's senior victory which saw her come home over two minutes ahead of her opponents was her second league win of the season after her second place opener and she leads the individual table with one round left. Jo Sullivan's improvement continued as she finished 20th with Jane Hallam 29th and Angela Thompson 33rd completing the scorers with Anne Gifford 51st.  The team placed fifth and are also fifth in the table.

 

The U15 Boys, with all four scorers inside the top 12,  took them to the top of the league table. With Hoseah Gikungu (4th) Ryan O'Mahoney (8th), Tom Davis (10th) and Nick Shade the team were victorious by five points and edged out Southend at the top of the table. There were four others taking part with Nick Duffey 24th, one place ahead of Danny Wilson with Josh Conners 29th and Andrew Holland 40th.

 

Jamie Buckley-Stanton was third as the U17 Men were pipped by a single point by league leaders Thurrock. Joseph Waked made the top 10 in ninth, with Adam Edwards (14th) and Massi Dendani (21st) again the scorers with good support from Ross Earney (27th) and Adam Wileman (29th).

 

Rob Warner led the way for the club runners in the senior men’s race with his third top ten finish of the season with a fine 8th place. Mat Bland continues to hold top place in the vets standings coming home in 20th, not far in front of Jason Lendon in his first outing of the season taking 22nd. Callum Sutton in 28th again impressed, with the scoring team being made up of Neill Collins with a season's best 38th and Daniel Shanney 42nd , with Paul Berrett finishing 43rd.

Both Under 13 teams were fourth.

 

Lydia Hallam's excellent third place for the under 13 girls was supported by Heidi Surman-Wells again inside the top 10 in ninth, and Francesca Smith  (14th) and Rebecca Fox (37th) the other scorers with Thiziri Dendani 40th.

 

Freddy Keefe in 18th was best for the under 13 boys as close packing saw Adam Hill (20th), Charles Hammond (22nd) and Jordan Fox (24th) came home in close order for fourth. Four others competed: George Dixon (27th), William Hart (31st), Connor Martin (37th) and Albert Stokes (38th).

 

The Under 15 girls  were also fourth as Bethany hall (7th) and Becky Stanley (9th) made the top 10 with Shannon Sullivan (12th) and Lindsay McLachlan (15th) the other scorers. The squad was completed by Avril Loynes (18th), Rosie Brett (23rd), Amanda Blaxland (24th) and Lindsey Wiggins (29th).

  

Another fourth place effort came from the U17/U20 girls. Gemma Phillips again made the top 10 in 8th and Rachel Sadler 11th and Patsy McWeeney 16th made up the incomplete team.
