Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Hadleigh, 19 November 2011

A Team win for the senior ladies and another individual victory for Hoseah Gikungu in the U17 Men's race were the highlights of the third round of the Essex Cross Country League which took place at Hadleigh on Saturday.

Alexa Joel's return to fitness continued as she again took runners up spot in the senior women's  race with Debbie Appleton's highest placing for some time as she came home in third, one place better than rounds 1 & 2. The squad were boosted by the presence of Vicky Smith, who was a fine eighth and Robyn Matson in her first cross country outing this winter two places back.  Excellent packing from Angie Thompson (21st), Jade Edwards (23rd) and Jo Sullivan (24th) showed good strength in depth and veterans Jane Hallam (49th), Juliet Ward (50th), ad Jenny Golan (54th) completed an impressive 10 athlete turn out.

Hoseah Gikungu's winning streak continued as he made it a hat-trick of Essex Cross Country League victories in this Round 3 fixture at Hadleigh as the U17 Men were third with James Kidd (14th), Nick Shade (17th) and Tom Brennan (19th) making up the quartet.

Rob Warner's impressive season continued with another excellent 4th place in the senior men's competition. Rob was just in front of teammate Grant Twist who took a great 5th while Jamie Buckley Stanton in his first cross-country for the club this season showed what the team had been missing with a very good 10th giving the team three in the top ten, but unfortunately this was not enough to stop Chelmsford from taking top spot once again. Matt Bland was next home with a good 26th and the scoring team was made up with Ian Anthony 47th and Martin Chester 49th. Neill Collins came home in 67th with Paul Berrett and Ross Earney not far behind in 80th and 81st and the 11 strong squad was made up with vets Gary Howard 132nd and Barry Ward 137th.

The improving Under 13 Boys recorded their best league result this winter in third. Ben Ellis was 14trth in his first race this winter, with 19th placed Josh Stevens, 21st position Aaron Westwood and George Hart in 22nd scoring, with Eddie Rudgeley in support.

The Under 13 Girls were fourth as Emily Marshall placed 12th with Amy Baggs in 17th, Gemma Archer-Haley 21st and 36th placed Elysha Thatcher-Gray completing the scoring with Bethan White and Ellie Bristow also taking part.

Another good run by Isabella Woods in her best-ever fifth place led home the incomplete Under 17 Women with Beth Hall (11th) and Lindsay McLachlan (22nd) also in action. The Under 15 Boys were also unable to muster a full complement Sean Wilson (16th), Ed Thompson (17th) and 24th placed William Hart one short of the necessary quartet.

The Under 15 girls did turn out six competitors but were back in fifth place. Lydia Hallam was back in 14th and Rebecca Ward (21st), Robbie Nunn's best run in 22nd and Abi Spink (32nd) scored, and Louise Lear & Zoe Rudgeley also competed.
