Essex Cross Country League, Round 4, Colchester, 17 December 2011

Hoseah Gikungu's fourth successive win in Saturday's fourth round Essex Cross Country League at Colchester gave him an unbeatable lead in the series to ensure that he will lift the individual league trophy.

And Hoseah's win led the U17 Men to team victory as eighth placed James Kidd and 14th place for Andrew Holland was enough to secure victory by a single point over Southend and Chelmsford, as no club was able to field a complete scoring quartet..

The senior men’s team accomplished something they have never done before placing two men in the top four. The strong running Grant Twist produced his best run of the season with a fantastic runners up spot and Mr Consistent Rob Warner placed a very good fourth place for the third race in succession.  Matt Bland ran well to take 22nd, just in front of a much-improved Ian Anthony in 26th.   In a team much-depleted hrough injury and illness the next home was Adam Edwards in 53rd whle Neill Collins made up the scoring six in 65th with Paul Berrett coming home in 71st.  The team are second in the table and league leaders Chelmsford look set to take over from last year's champions Havering Mayesbrook..

Lydia Hallam (U15 Girls) and Bella Woods (U17 Women) also placed fourth. The Under 15 Girls team were second as Heidi Surman-Wells (12th), Robbie Nunn (167th) and Louise Lear (24th) supported Lydia well, and Zoe Rudgeley also saw action. Bella Woods' highest placing of the season was to no avail as she was the only Under 17 Woman to make the trip

The senior women started the day as equal league leaders but despite a fine sixth place by Vicky Smith and supporting efforts from Angela Thompson in 25th and Jane Hallam in 44th the incomplete team could only finish ninth and the league-leading team slipped to third in the table with one fixture to come.

Amy Baggs had her best result of the season in seventh for the Under 13 girls.  Tenth place from Gemma Archer-Haley and Emily Marshall one place back and Katie Mitchell closing in 22nd saw the team place third for their highest finish of the winter. Ellie Bristow also ran.

The Under 15 boys placed fourth thanks to runs by Ed Thompson (12th), Sean Wilson (17th), Elliott Nunn (21st) and Sam Dell (23rd). The Under 13 boys were another team without their full complement: Aaron Westwood (21st), Michael Hollette (24th) and Eddie Rudgeley (32nd) flew the flag
