Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Hyland Park, Chelmsford, 7 December 2013

The Under 13 Girls notched up their third successive Essex Cross Country League victory this campaign and with two of the five fixtures remaining look firmly on course to lift the league title.

Round 2 winner Kate O'Neill led the Under 13 Girls' squad home but had to settle for third on this occasion with Katie Mitchell just one place behind her. Becca Brown was twelfth and Jessica Mitchell (16th) edged out Sophie Rand (17th) for the fourth scoring spot.  Nine other club U13s completed the course in close order with Catherine Barker 24th, an improved Lucy Priestley 32nd and seven other finishers placed between 34th & 42nd: 34th - Jessica James; 36th - Chloe Morter; 37th - Ella King; 38th - Millie Redgrave; 39th - Emily Crane; 41st - Kate Walker and Amelia Day one place back giving the club 14 of the 48 finishers.

Good runs from Lydia Hallam (4th) & Sarah Wilson (6th) saw the Under 17 & Under 20 women's team place third, with Bella Woods in her highest position this season (13th) and 28th placed Lindsey Wiggins ensuring a scoring quartet.

The Under 15 girls continue to improve, placing third with Emily Marshall 's fine 7th position leading the way and good grouping from the other scorers, 13th placed Lois Wyatt, just ahead of Gemma Archer-Hayley in 14th & Jess Ward in 19th. There were five other competitors - Holly Hyde (28th),Emily James & Maria Holloway in 30th & 31st, and 37th and 38th placed Tia Gaitely & Elysha Thatcher-Gray.

There was a fourth place finish from the Under 13 boys who mustered 11 competitors. The scoring foursome were 16th placed Jack Rice,  Bailey Hearne two places behind in 18th and Sam Atkins & Kieran Davies in 22nd & 25th. The other finishers were Louis Shead (32nd) & 33rd placed Sam Mezoori - 13:18; debutants Peter Brinton-Quinn & Matthew Bright (42nd & 48th), with Sam Shrimpton (50th), and Todd Riddell & Toby Marshall 54th & 55th. 

Rob Warner continues to impress with another strong run again taking 6th place in the senior men's race in a very fast race. Despite missing many top runners the seniors still managed to have thirteen athletes at the start line. Ian Anthony had a good run to come home in 31st with Vets Matt Bland and Paul Berrett in 43rd and 57th and U20 Andrew Holland improved on his last outing to make the scoring team in 80th place with Rob Dickenson on the road to recovery from a long series of injuries completing the scoring six in 93rd. Darren Priestley made the top one hundred in 96th not far in front of two runners improving on their season's standings Barry Ward 106th and Luke Jackson 107th.  Julian Davies 119th , Russ Middleton 120th , Tony Collins 140th and Gary Howard 157th all did well showing the team have strength in depth.

Vicky Smith was the first senior woman finisher in eighth and Robyn Matson produced one of her highest league placings in 11th. Veteran Jo Sullivan had her highest placing this winter in 24th with Patsy McWeeney returning to club colours after a couple of years away in a promising 37th. Vaulter Tina Quinlivan wasn't far back in 49th, ahead of fellow vets Mo Lear (57th) & Clare Rudgley (79th) as the team were fourth.

In contrast to the bumper line ups from the other young athletes teams both the Under 17 Men and the Under 15 Boys were unable to complete their expected roster. Oliver Bath (27th), Lewis Debenham (29th) & 36th placed Oliver Morter were the incomplete U15s while Abdul Mohamed in 12th, Matthew Braybrook (18th) and 29th finisher Euan Harlow were the short-handed U17s.
