Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Notley Country Park, 6 December 2014

Havering AC shrugged off illness, injuries and other commitments which affected the usual turn out to register some excellent results at the third round of the Essex Cross Country League, hosted by Braintree in bight but chilly conditions on Saturday.

A third consecutive victory for the Under 15 Girls’ team puts them in almost an unbeatable position with two fixtures to go. Kate O'Neill’s fifth place led the team home in style, as Sophie Rand again made the top 10, finishing ninth, while Emily Marshall & Jess Mitchell’s highest finishes in 11th and 14th brought the team home comfortably in front.  Amba Coombe (26th, Catherine Barker (29th) and Amelia Day (33rd) provided strong support..

Lydia Hallam was a fine winner in the Under 17/20 women's event and is now second in the individual stakes but was the only club runner to make the start line in this event.

The Under 15 boys fine season continued as Jack Rice had his best run in club colours to come close to victory, being edged into second in the closing stages. Lewis Debenham was again ninth, and Oliver Bath (19th) & John Fennessey (25th) completed the third placed scoring quartet with Sam Atkins (26th) and Kieran Davies (46th).

The Under 13 girls' team were back to full strength as Molly Sweetman (7th) and Grace Dukelow (12th) led the way while Molly Bath just got the better of younger sister Lily in 22nd & 24th to place fourth. The squad bucked the trend with nine more finishers  with Kate Walker, Olivia Hyde and Aaliyah Davies 25th to 27th, Jessica James & Rosie Brown (29th & 30th) with Ella King (39th), Lucy Priestley (41st), Ann Cooper (42nd) & Chloe Rutter (44th) completing a strong line up.

The Under 17 Men were sixth thanks to Matthew Braybrook (28th), James Stewart (36th), an injury-affected Bradley West (37th),and Kieran O'Hara (42nd)  but the Under 13 boys , who fielded an impressive nine finishers last time out, were one short of a scoring four squad with Alex Ford (18th), Dominic Jarvis (27th) & Henry Lay (37th ) the only takers at the hilly Braintree venue..

The senior women had five competitors with Jo Sullivan home first in 31st, backed up by Juliet Ward (43rd), Mo Lear (48th ) and Jane Hallam (50th completing the scorers in with Bobbie Westwood 71st.

A team of seven competed over a short course for the senior men. Rob Warner took the honours again with a powerful run to take 7th place. Matt Bland continues to improve with his best result of the season in 19th just in front of Alfie Waithaka who had a very good run in 26th place. Paul Grange was next home with another solid performance in 32nd place with Under 20 Abdul Mohamed 66th and Russ Middleton both running well to complete the scoring team. Barry Ward in his best finish of the season completed the squad in 102nd place.
