Essex Cross Country League, Round 4, Epping Forest, 10 January 2015

Liquid mud and near gale force winds made for another testing competition at the fourth round of the Essex Cross Country League, hosted at Epping Forest by Orion Harriers.

The Under 15 Girls’ team maintained their 100% league record with an other victory to lift the league title with one race left. Kate O'Neill's fourth place confirmed her third placing in the individual stakes, Sophie Rand enjoyed her highest placing in sixth and Jess Mitchell's 10th place & Amba Coombe's 17th kept the squad ahead of Benfleet. Catherine Barker & Emily James were 20th & 21st.

The Under 13 girls' team recorded their best result this winter to place second. Molly Sweetman's fifth place was her best so far and Grace Dukelow (13th), Alice Brown (17th) & Kate Walker (20th) edged out Harlow for the runners up spot. Molly Bath (22nd), Sydney Foley (23rd) & Jessica James (26th) also saw action in the energy-sapping condition.

Debbie Sullivan's third place was the highest individual result on the day, leading home the senior women with Vicky Smith a good seventh and Jo Sullivan (25th) and Tracy O'Neill (69th) completing the fifth place scorers with Bobbie Westwood 73rd.  Bella Woods' sixth place flew the club flag in the Under 17/20 women's event, with absent individual league leader Lydia Hallam missing on Coopers' duty winning a race in Sevenoaks.

Rob Warner got back to his old form with another good run to take sixth place in the senior men's race, with the improving Paul Grange next home in 22nd.  On a very treacherous course Matt Bland kept up his challenge on the Vets title with another solid run in 33rd  while U20 Abdul Mohamed had a great run through the mud to come home in 35th with Jason Crispin 58th and Jamie Buckley-Stanton 66th completing the scoring team. The squad was completed by Graham Hogan 102nd and Tony Collins 135th who had to wade through deep water after the temporary bridge collapsed on the second lap before the race marshalls came to his rescue..

The Under 15 boys good run of form continued as they were again placed third, with sixth placed Lewis Debenham leading them home with Oliver Bath 14th, and Sam Atkins (22nd) & 26th placed John Fennessey the other team members. The Under 13 boys were also third with  Oliver Woods first club athlete across the line in sixth,  Alex Ford 18th, Ellis Osborne (22nd) & Dominic Jarvis (23rd) the scoring four. Also in action were Henry Lay (32nd), Lewis Jolly (49th), Todd Riddell (51st) & Luke Fallows (52nd).  The Under 17 Men were represented by reliable James Stewart (20th), and 26th placed Jack Ayling.
