Essex Cross Country League, Round 5, Abbey Fields, Colchester 31 January 2015

Havering teams ended their Essex Cross Country League season in style with their best set of results of the season at an icy Colchester on Saturday.

The Under 15 Girls’ team finished the season unbeaten in the league to lift the title, despite three regulars absent on Essex duties. Amba Coombe's 9th place led the squad home and Catherine Barker (14th), Grace Macleod (19th) & Emily James ensured a scoring four and Amelia Day was 22nd. The absent Kate O'Neill was third in the individual league standings, which are based on athlete's best results in four of the five fixtures.

Rob Warner recorded his highest placing of the season in third as the Senior Men's team took the honours on the day in the worst of the weather, for their first league top spot for four years. There was close grouping by the next four athletes as Matt Bland's 17th place was his best this year and confirmed runners up spot in the veterans table, while the improving Alfie Waithika was 19th, Paul Grange 22nd, Richard Heath 25th all running well in the adverse conditions. Under 20 Abdul Mohamed in 34th completed the winning six, while Paul Wyatt (48th) Russ Middleton (81st), Barry Ward (95th), Paul Berrett (109th) & Tony Collins (121st) all did the club proud in one of the toughest league races for many years.

The Under 13 girls' team equalled their best result of the league season in placing second but had to settle for fourth in the league table.  Grace Dukelow's fourth place was her highest finish, with Molly Sweetman in sixth Alice Brown (12th) & Sydney Foley (16th) the scoring quartet with six other finishers: Kate Walker & Aaliyah Davies (23rd & 24trh), Jessica James (28th) with debutant Freya Duffey, Ella King & Chloe Rutter occupying 31st to 33rd.

Debbie Sullivan's second place in the Senior Women's  race earned her the individual veteran's title and a 10 voucher from sponsors Runners Edge with Vicky Smith recording an impressive third place. Veterans Jane Hallam (34th) & Juliet Ward (37th) completed the scorers whose second place as their best league result this winter and Mo Lear (41st) & Clare Rudgley (57th) also competed, as teh veteran women finished third in the table.

The Under 17/20 women were also second on the day thanks to Bella Woods' (5th), Sarah Wilson (10th) and Jess Ward & Holly Hyde in 12th &13th.

The short-handed Under 15 boys good league season ended with another third place to confirm third in the table with eighth placed Lewis Debenham leading home with Sam Atkins (14th) & the returning Bailey Hearne (20th).  The Under 13 boys were also third with the consistent Oliver Woods first home in seventh, Alex Ford 21st, Henry Lay (23rd) & Dominic Jarvis (30th) the four to score. The Under 17 Men had only 13th placed James Stewart to fly the flag
