Essex Cross Country League, Round 2, Hockley, 31 October 2015

There were team victories for the Under 15 Girls and Under 17 men, another individual win for Kate O'Neill, and a team third for the senior men at the second round of the Essex League hosted by Southend at Hockley on Saturday.

The Under 15 Girls are already well on the way to retaining their league title after their seventh straight victory in the league. Kate O'Neill was again well ahead of the rest as she added another win to her first round victory. Jess Mitchell had a good run in fourth to clinch Essex selection, alongside Kate, and Sophie Rand (10th) & Molly Sweetman (11th) swept the squad to a comfortable win. The club's strength in depth was reflected in eight other finishers as Grace Dukelow was 17th, Catherine Barker (28th), with Molly Bath & Chloe Morter 31st and 32nd. Emily Crane, Ella King; Lucy Priestley and Millie Redgrave placed 40th to 43rd.

The Under 17 Boys were good value for their win as Ben Davis earned his Essex vest with a fine third place and Oliver Morter (14th); Lewis Debenham (22nd) and James Stewart (25th) wrapped up the team victory, with 28th placed Oliver Bath in reserve.   There was a third place finish for the Under 17/Under 20 Women with Bella Woods in 10th and Georgia Phillips (20th), Amba Coombe (24th) & Emily James (26th) ensuring a scoring quartet.

There were an impressive ten finishers for the Under 13 Boys who placed fourth thanks to Alex Ford first home in 8th, Ben Naish (22nd), and 28th & 29th placed Henry Lay and Jordan Ryan the other scorers. Also in action was Luke Chester (32nd), Casey Fletcher (34th), Timi McDaniel & Reece Debenham (40th & 42nd) and Tom Puxley and Samuel Winney (51st & 52nd).

The Senior Men's team gets stronger with every meeting with eighteen starters for the difficult Hockley course. Rob Warner celebrated his one hundredth Essex League leading the team home in an impressive 4th place while Steve Rand improved on his last outing coming home in 15th . Next home was Jason Crispin who had a great run to take 34th place just in front of Matt Bland who also improved on his Round 1 run in 35th . Paul Grange 39th and Martin Chester 47th completed the scoring six who placed third.

Two under twenties (Matthew Braybrook 58th and Euan Harlow 68th ) completing their first senior Essex league were split by 67th placed Paul Berrett 67th who has done more than he would care to remember!  Another U20 Abdul Mohamed was 77th and Russ Middleton 91st as both made the top one hundred. They were followed by Rob Dickenson 104th, Tony Collins 113th , Barry Ward 115th, Darren Priestley 122nd and Chris Coates 150th . The team had two drop out because of injuries caused by having to pass runners going the other way on the ploughed field.

The Under 13 Girls were fifth but there was some controversy as due to a mix-up Sydney Foley’s sixth place finish was initially wrongly recorded as eighth but later corrected. The other scorers were Alice Brown (11th), and Jessica James & Alice Atkins, 23rd & 26th. Rebecca O'Rourke & Morgan Romain were 35th & 36th.  The Under 15 boys had to settle for seventh as John Fennessey & - Sam Atkins made the top 20 and newcomers Billy Fox & Henry Chaplin tasted league action.

The Veteran Women's  trio of Juliet Ward (57th), Mo Lear (67th) & Tracy O'Neill (73rd) were 11th
