Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Horseheath, Cambridge, 14 November 2015

Kate O'Neill led the unbeaten Under 15 Girls to another victory but the clash with the London Youth Games which creamed off almost 20 club athletes, resulted in depleted club line ups in other races as the third round of the Essex League took place out of county, hosted by Cambridge & Coleridge at Horseheath race course.

After victories on two hilly courses in rounds 1 & 2 Kate O'Neill also showed her prowess on the flatter Cambridge course to win the Under 15 Girls race by over half a minute. Once again Jess Mitchell (4th), Molly Sweetman (11th) and Sophie Rand (13th) were untouchable in the team stakes and the squad also had Catherine Barker (26th), Chloe Morter (27th) & Kate Walker (35th) on hand to step into the scoring four if needed.

Fourth place finishes by both Under 13 teams were the best of the rest, mainly due to London Youth Games absences. The Under 13 Girls had to cope with the absence of six regulars but the quartet who competed at Cambridge packed well with Annie Grannell 21st, debutant Hannah Johnson 24th and Rebecca O'Rourke & Morgan Romain 26th & 27th. The Under 13 Boys 3were led home by 13th placed Ben Naish 12:23, with Luke Chester 17th, newcomer Edoardo Sonzogni two places back and Peter Brinton-Quinn's 31st completing the scorers with Jordan Ryan one place back.

Alexa Joel's comeback trail continued with another fourth place finish in the Senior Women's race.  Veterans Mo Lear (52nd), Tracy O'Neill (58th) and 74th placed Jane Hallam ensured a scoring team in eighth, and the latter three also formed the eighth placed veterans trio.

The Senior Men had another great turnout with fourteen travelling to the first Essex League out of the county. Rob Warner led the squad home in 11th with Alfie Waithaka in his first cross country of the season coming home in a very good 19th. Next home in 24th was Steve Rand who like many others found the flat gravel pathed course more of a road run than cross country. Paul Grange 35th and Matt Bland 37th vied for position throughout the race and they were closely followed by Jason Crispin in 49th, giving the team 4th place in the race. Just outside the scoring team were Martin Chester 53rd, Mathew  Braybrook 59th and Abdul Mohammed 67th who all ran well over the windy heathland.  Vets Paul Berrett 77th, Russ Middleton 86th and Steve Walker 104th performed well to give the team a second place in the vets race. The squad was completed by Tony Collins in 121st and new comer Richard Rowe in 142nd.

The other Havering teams were all incomplete due to absentees. Alex Friend (17th) & Matthew Edwards (30th) were the seventh Under 15 Boys team, James Stewart (26th) and Kieran O'Hara (32nd) placed ninth in the seventh Under 17 Men category and Sarah Wilson's 11th place ensured that the Under 17 Girls / Under 20 women registered.
