Essex Cross Country League, Round 3, Horseheath, Cambridge, 19 November 2016

Havering AC shrugged off a fixture clash with the London Youth Games to record another fine set of results at the third round of the Essex Cross Country League, held just across the county border at Horseheath Point to Point course hosted by Cambridge on Saturday..

Sydney Foley's first individual league win led the Under 13 Girls to their second victory of the season to stay top the league table with top rounds remaining. Chloe Rand 5th place finish was her best so far with Annie Grannell 14th and Hannah Johnson one place back to complete the scoring quartet. Maddie Barker and Rebecca O'Rourke was 16th & 17th and debutant Holly Bradley was 24th and Morgan Romain completing the finishers in 25th.

Molly Sweetman made it three individual wins out of three for the depleted Under 15 Girls who just managed to muster a scoring four as Katie Rafferty (26th), newcomer Amy Kilner (27th) and Jessie James (29th) brought the team home in fourth to slip to third in the league stakes.

The Under 17 Girls / Under 20 women race was badly hit by absences and although only fielding three runners the Havering squad still finished second to stay on top of the table. Kate O'Neill was third, Sophie Rand 8th place and Catherine Barker in 15th were the club complement.

Faye Fullerton cantered to victory in the Senior Women’s race for her first cross country race of the winter but Tracy O'Neill (65th) was the only other club lady to make the trip up the M11.

The Senior Men were thankful for the new group of under 20s to help them achieve a very good second place which keeps them in the hunt for the league title. Rob Warner had another great run in third place to lead the team home followed by under twenty Ben Davis with a battling 10th place. Vet Steve Rand turned in his best performance of the season to take 13th with Alfie Waithaka having a very good run in 22nd. Two Under 20s filled the gap left by missing seniors, James Stewart with his best result against senior opposition next home in 41st followed by Kieran O'Hara whose good run in 73rdcompleted the scoring team. Striving for scoring places were Steve Walker 83rd, Richard Rowe 86th and Graham Hogan 91st while Rob Dickenson 102nd and Aiden Elmore 115th completed the Havering line up.

Alex Ford's second individual victory led home the Under 13 boys to a third place finish with a promising run from Billy Titley in 15th and Lenny Houston in 18th and Timi McDaniel 28th ensuring a scoring four, as the team hold onto runners up spot in the table.

The Under 15 Boys were badly affected by London Youth Games and other absentees and did well to finish fifth. Ben Naish was first home in 28th, with Louis Berrett two places back and Matthew Edwards (5th) and Luke Chester 38th) the scoring four, with Henry Lay and Peter Brinton-Quinn in reserve.

Essex League action resumes with Round 4 at Great Notley on 14th January, after the Essex Championship events - with the Masters , Under 13s and Under 15s challenging for county medals at Writtle College next Saturday (26th) while the Under 17s, Under 20s and Seniors have to wait until 7th January to contest their event at Claybury .
