Essex Cross Country League, Round 5, Basildon, Saturday 2nd February 2019

Havering's senior teams both lifted Essex League team title and there were four individual titles s the Essex Cross Country League season came to a close at a soggy Gloucester Park, Basildon on Saturday.

The senior men completed a remarkable clean sweep of five wins out of five to retain the Essex league title for a second year. The team was led home by a great first place from Rob Warner, who claimed the Essex league winner's trophy for the third consecutive year. Rob was followed by Ben Davis whose second place confirmed victory in the Under 20 league standings. Rob and Ben exchanged the lead several times during the race and Warner only opened up a winning gap on the last set of hills. They were followed home by two great runs from Jamie Buckley-Stanton in 7th (to win individual runners up spot )and Sam Atkins in 8th , with Elliot Cordery in his first senior Essex league outing a very good 14th and another good run from James Stewart 19th completed the scoring team.

A much improved Barry Smith was 29th with John Whitehead 41st and Matt Bland 45thmaking the top fifty. Martin Chester was 52nd and Tony Pecoraro's 54th ensured third in the Vet 50 category, with Gary Atkins 71st , Graham Hogan 72nd, Steve Walker 81st and Jason Crispin 82nd battling well to make the top one hundred. Richard Rowe 115th and Roy James 124th completed the title winning squad.

The senior women have struggled in recent years but a third victory in the five match series sealed the league title for the first time since 2003 as Lauren Deadman and Under 20 Jess Mitchell repeated their one-two placings from the third round. Debbie Appleton's fine seventh place confirmed her individual W45 age group title and Morgan Campbell's eighth place completed the scoring quartet and a fine first season in the league. Ginte Bailey returned from injury in 14th as Robyn Matson in 16th place, Clare Davies in 25th and Tracy O'Neill's 79th completed the line up.

All four Under 13 and Under 15 squads had to settle for runners up placings in the table. Alex Ford ended the league season unbeaten for a comfortable individual title as he brought the Under 15 Boys team home. Shane Hart (10th), Lewis Edwards (24th) and 28th placed Lenny Houston were the scoring four who finished fourth on the day, with Jack Thomson and Timi McDaniel also in action. Charlie Howell was unable to run but was second in the individual standings after fine results in the first four rounds.
