Havering AC Club Championships, Hornchurch, Sunday 14th September 2014

Some fine performances in the club championships at Hornchurch on Sunday brought to a close a good summer for club athletes.

Once again Max Law stole the show. His winning 49.84m javelin best added over three metres to his week-old club record and it was the second longest ever by a UK Under 13 boy. Max also threw the U15 spear for the first time & exceeded 40m and was close to his best in winning the discus.

Older sibling Alex Law showed that his injury woes are behind him as he jumped a season's best in the long jump, while Michelle Hughes prepared for her English Schools' heptathlon final next week with a long jump PB.

Jairzinho Morris, not content with breaking the 100m, 200m & long jump records for U13s this season, tackled the high jump and leapt to second on the club all time list with his 1.53m clearance, while runner up Ben Hamberger's PB of 1.50m took him to fourth all time.

There was some fine sprinting as Jade Kavanagh got the better of Caitlin Saggers in both U13 sprints and Lewis Bailey signed off from the U17 age group with sprint victories against older opposition with a 100m PB of 11.1s - fourth fastest by a club U17 - and equalled his 200m best.
