Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, Birmingham 10 March 2012

Lauren Deadman produced another fine performance on the national stage when she finished seventh in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Birmingham on Saturday.  Her aggressive running with the leading bunch saw her contest the lead early on and she was still in the top five until late on, but slipped back in the final stages for a great seventh place finish in 28m 06s, with Faye Fullerton next home for Essex in 21st place with 29:10, as the county squad placed fifth.

Lydia Hallam showed improved form to finish an impressive 16th in the U15 Girls event and the Essex quartet combined superbly to earn the team honours.  Isabella Woods was satisfied with her 78th placing in her first Inter Counties outing in the U17 Women as Essex placed fourth, but Hoseah Gikungu was not so pleased to finish in 83rd in the U17 men’s race after recent injury niggles affected his fine early season form.

In the senior men’s race Rob Warner produced one of his best efforts with a solid 138th placing out of over 300 starters, finishing as fourth Essex scorer as the team were 13th. After spending most of the winter side-lined through injury Jamie Buckley-Stanton returned to action with 107th place in the junior men’s competition
