CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, Cofton Park, Birmingham 12th March 2016

Kate O'Neill finished her superb cross country season on a high with a fifth place finish in the red vest of Essex in the Inter Counties Championships at Birmingham's Cofton Park on Saturday. It followed previous excellent results in national competitions for the 15-year-old Brentwood Ursuline student after her eighth place in the English National Championships and her 18th place against older opposition in last weekend's English Schools championships. And her clubmates Jess Mitchell & Sophie Rand also did Essex proud in the same Under 15 race finishing 30th & 130th respectively as the county squad won team silver behind Merseyside. The Essex Under 15 boys also won silver as Jack Rice came home in 147th.

Ben Davis' first cross country season for the club has also been successful and the Coopers' sixth former finished in great form placing 29th in the Under 17 event, leading home the county squad. Lydia Hallam also had another good run making the top 30 in the Under 20 women's race, with Sarah Wilson in 85th as Essex placed fourth.

There were promising Inter Counties' debuts for Sydney Foley & Alex Ford, who were 123rd and 151st in the Under 13 girls & boys' races respectively, with both having another  year in the age group next winter.
