JUBILEE CUP SEMI FINAL, ENFIELD 23 JULY 2000
Back in action a week after their Bromley league win, Havering Mayesbrook's senior ladies failed in their bid to make the final of the National competition for the Jubilee Cup at Enfield last Sunday, but a string of good performances both in the first round, and this semi-final, have enabled the team to qualify for the Plate Final.
Points were always going to be difficult to come by against such strong opposition, but sprinter Ruth McMenemy collected 11 with a fourth place in the 100m, and third in the 200m. Joanne Sullivan produced the team's highest placing when finishing second in the 1500m, recording a new personal best time of 4 min. 39.1 sec.
There were further good points collected on the track by Lesley Felton (6th - 400m), Lydia Comley (7th - 800m), Nikkii Barnett (5th - 3000m), Claire Brennan (5th - 100mH) and Melissa Felton (400mH).
In the field competition, Sarah Deacon had a busy day contesting three events. With a haul of 10 points, Sarah finished with a fourth place in the discus, sixth in the hammer, and seventh in the shot. Sue Deboos once again equalled the club record of 1.90m, coming fifth in the pole vault. Laura Coleman (6th - javelin), Sue Bunting (6th - triple jump), Hannah Gamester (7th - long jump) and Corrina Keevil (8th - high jump) rounded off the individual competitions.
To complete the meeting Terri Johnson joined Lesley Felton, Gamester and McMenemy to finish seventh in the 4x100m relay, and Helen Biscoe teamed up with Comley, Sullivan and Lesley Felton to finish the 4x400m in sixth position.
The team can now look forward to a prestige appearance in the Plate Final at Bedford on Sunday 20th August.
