Havering Mayesbrook athletes again helped the local Havering Borough team to a winning performance in the adidas London Mini-Marathon, held over the last 4kms (2.75miles) of the London Marathon course on Sunday. Two team successes and two team runners up placings ensured that Havering cantered a runaway victory over nearest rivals Barnet.
| The headlines again
went to junior star Faye
Fullerton who signed off with her sixth and final win in the London Boroughs
event. After enduring a post-race interview with Sue Barker
after her win last year, Faye had to survive live interviews both before and
after her race this year. Faye said she was pleased with her win but
disappointed that her time had not been quicker. Her Havering team in
the 15-17 year old girls category claimed second place.
Pride of place went to the Havering girls in the age 13 & 14 category. Charlotte Watkins came within a stride of winning as Linzi Snow (Woodford Green & EL) clawed back Charlotte's lead with a storming finish, as the Havering runner had to settle for runner-up for the second year. Defending champion Megan Foley also finished strongly coming from a long way back to seal third but her recent illness and missed training had taken its toll and she had to give up her title. In the same race there was further excellent results for Havering Mayesbrook athletes made up six of the top twelve, as Robyn Matson (running for Barking & Dagenham) placed a superb fourth with Katie Richardson fifth, Vicky Smith eighth and Natalie Adams (Barking Dagenham) twelfth. Not surprisingly Havering walked away with the team event with Barking and Dagenham in second place. |

| In the girls 11-12 race Lauren Clark returned from injury to place third, with teammates Clare Robinson in 7th and Hayley Thomas (12th) confirming another team victory as all eight runners placed 41st or higher in the 250 strong field. There was another Havering team success in the equivalent 11-12 category for boys as Matthew Watkins and Jay Ryan finished second and third respectively. In the boys 13-14 age group club member Ashley Reece, running for Barking & Dagenham, was first local runner home in fourth, but the Havering squad placed second as Andrew Meech (7th) and Ross Clarke (10th) were well placed and Aaron Churchouse (14th) and Paul Andrews (16th) made the top 20 home. | |
