Havering Mayesbrook Club athletes played their part in Havering’s
overall success at this year’s London Youth Games with excellent
performances at the Crystal Palace National Stadium on Sunday. The boys’ team took the gold medal whilst the girls were just two points off bronze in fourth place. For the boys, Hoseah Gikungu ran a terrific 800m to finish 6th of the 33 London Boroughs in a new personal best performance of 2.13.8. In the High Jump, Harry Phillips equalled his PB of 1.60m to take 4th place and Daniel Bristow threw 20m in the Javelin. Non-Club members included Michael Animasaun (Brittons) who took 9th overall in the 100m and 6th in the Long Jump, Connor Hynes (Albany) 5th in the 100m, Dale Marks-Swain (Gaynes) 4th in the 400m, Harry Gostling (St Edwards) 10th in the Shot. For the girls, pride of place went to Deborah Knight who took the individual gold medal in the Javelin with a throw of over 29m. There were top-ten placings for Lucy Allen (200m). Ricarda Chapman (300m) who also jumped well in the Long Jump, and Amanda Blaxland in the 800m. Non-Club girls included Rennee Fagan (Brittons) who competed in the 100m and High Jump and Jamie Williams (Albany) who threw well for 7th place in the Shot and then went on to compete for the girls’ soccer team. Both 4 x 100m squads ran well with the boys winning their race in great style. |
