McDonalds Young Athletes’ Boys League, Norman Park, Bromley 1st July 2001

The Under 17 boy’s team travelled to Norman Park, Bromley for the penultimate McDonald's League match of the season.  The boy’s acquitted themselves well with a good second place behind Shaftesbury Barnet, despite losing many of the more experienced team members through injury and other commitments. 

In the under 13’s, Ashley Reece (pictured) notched up another impressive win in the 1500m, an event in which he has dominated this season.  Another name to watch out for is newcomer, Ross Clarke, who ran his first race for the club and gained a creditable 2nd place in the 800m with a time of 2.21.7. 

For the under 15’s, Scott Keating and Joe Golding both had an outstanding day with each athlete gaining two wins.  Scott had wins in the Long Jump (A) and 80m Hurdles (A), and Joe had wins in the 400m (B), 800m (A) and also formed part of the winning 4x400m relay squad..

Other winners for the under 15’s included Samuel Thorne Hammer (A), Christian Newton with a personal best in the Pole Vault (A), Paul Andrews Pole Vault (B), Andrew Bartlett 400m (A), Danny Skelt High Jump (B), Ashley Roberts 3000m (B), Terry O’Leary 80m Hurdles (B), the 4x400m relay squad of Andrew Bartlett, Terry O’Leary, Danny Skelt (pictured right) and Joe Golding.

Other winners for the under 15’s included Samuel Thorne Hammer (A), Christian Newton with a personal best in the Pole Vault (A), Paul Andrews Pole Vault (B), Andrew Bartlett 400m (A), Danny Skelt High Jump (B), Ashley Roberts 3000m (B), Terry O’Leary 80m Hurdles (B), the 4x400m relay squad of Andrew Bartlett, Terry O’Leary, Danny Skelt and Joe Golding.

In the under 17’s, Bob Thanda gained two winning performances in the 400m (A), with a personal best , and the Shot (B) and played an important part in the winning 4x400m relay squad.

Other winners in this age group were Trevor Walton High Jump (A), Mark Connelly High Jump (B), Greg Smith Shot (A), Peter Jones with a personal best in the 400m Hurdles (B), Peter Phillips with a personal best in the 400m (B), Rob Howe 3000m (B), the 4x400m relay squad of Peter Phillips, Mark Gardiner, Martin Heys and Bob Thanda.

Other notable performances on the day with boys producing personal bests in their chosen events were Joe Golding in the under 15’s Javelin (20.72m) and Mark Connelly in the under 17’s Long Jump (5.20m).

In all, the team gave an excellent performance today, even though we had many athletes complaining of tiredness after having competed the previous day.
