SECOND PLACE FOR PROMOTED LADIES

McDonalds Young Athletes’ Girls' League, Premier 5, Crystal Palace 20th May 2001  

The newly-promoted Under 17 women's team faced a challenging start to their McDonald's Premier league programme against strong opposition at Crystal Palace on Sunday.  The whole team performed well, finishing second overall just 19 points behind Bromley Ladies, with City of Norwich close behind.

The Under 13 squad did well, with Helen McDonnell breaking the club 150m record with a time of 20.0 secs. Lucy Sargent and Sam Day won both A and B Long Jump events.

Sara Luck had an excellent day for the Under 15s with a win treble in the 800m A, High Jump B and 200m. Caroline Smith won both 75m hurdles B and Discus B, with Lynsey Clark taking the A discus event. Other wins came from Megan Foley in the B 800m and Katie O'Sullivan, who won the high jump with personal best of 1.56m.

For the under 17s Nina Brennan was a double winner in the 80m hurdles B and Discus B, with Mel Harrison taking the Discus A event.

Team manager Trevor Jones said: "Hopefully we can improve, as we had some athletes missing. Our aim is to finish in the top two position and gain entry to the National finals in Birmingham in September."
