McDONALD'S GIRL'S LEAGUE, PREMIER 5, Norwich 22 JULY 2001

THE HAVERING GIRLS QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL FINAL

Havering Mayesbrook McDonald's League girls team travelled to Norwich for their final match on Sunday . Going into the match with a slender lead from the previous matches of only 34 points in front of Bromley it was questionable if, with a depleted team, we would have enough points to hold on. At the finish, although Bromley won the match by 14 points, we were overall winners of the McDonald's Premier 5 Division by 20 points and so qualify for the final in Birmingham, on September 2nd.

This is the first time that the girls team has reached the final and is a wonderful achievement. The girls under 17 team manager, Trevor Jones said, 'It was a very good team display and I am very proud to be associated with such a dedicated team.

In the under 13s Lauren McVicar, was the only winner in the long jump B. In the under 15s, Caroline Smith was a double winner in the 800m B and discus B,  Cherelle Westlake won the 100m B, Danielle Ross won the 75m hurdles A, Nicola Schofield won the 75m hurdles B, Chelsea Harrison won the javelin B and the quartet of Christina Kalejaiye, Westlake, Schofield and Ross won the 4 x 100 m relay. In the under 17s, Rosie Saunders won the 800 m A, Amy Ashwell won the 3000 m B, Melanie Harrison won the javelin B and Nina Brennan won the discus B.
