McDONALD'S GIRLS' LEAGUE - Perivale 23 July 2000

League Record for Faye as Girls Win Promotion

Havering Mayesbrook AC’s girls’ and boys’ under-17 teams were both in McDonald’s league action on Sunday and both came away well satisfied with the days’ performances. The girls were at Ealing for their third and final McDonald’s meeting of the season and an overwhelming victory ensured the league title and promotion for the second year running – this time to the Premier League.

The margin of victory on the day over second-placed Newham & Essex Beagles was a staggering 285pts. Faye Fullerton who smashed the 3000m under-17 record by ten seconds exemplified a series of fine displays throughout the afternoon, resulting in her winning the Athlete-of-the-Match award. In the same age group, Nina Brennan won the 300m Hurdles.

For the under-15s, sprinter Laura Jones took both the 100m and 200m in emphatic style whilst Sara Luck did likewise in the 1500m and ‘B’ string High Jump. Other double winners were Lynsey Clark (‘B’ 800m and Discus) and Nicola Schofield (75m Hurdles and ‘B’ 200m). Melanie Harrison went one better with wins in the Discus, Javelin and ‘B’ Shot. Other winners in this age group included Caroline Smith (800m), Amy Rogers (‘B’ Long Jump) and Chelsea Harrison (‘B’ Javelin). Finally, the 4 x 100m quartet consisting of Jones, Schofield, Clark and Rogers had a convincing victory.
