They had been hoping for second place to ensure a place in the promotion final but they expected to lose to hosts Norwich who already had the divisional title own up. However a revitalised Saxons – the combined Chelmsford & Ipswich outfit – won the match and edged out Havering to claim the coveted place. Kike Oniwinde again improved her club U17 & U20 club javelin record. Her 41.59 winning throw added 1.25m to her week-old PB. Nicola Hill provided the other A string victories for the ladies. She won the long jump on count back from Bedford’s Aimee Richardson, who has much better career best, with hr best leap of 5.25m backed up by 5.23m and 5.22m jumps. She also tackled the 100m hurdles for the first time for three months and improved her PB to 14.8s for a run away victory. Fellow hurdlers Lauren Edgar-Hill provided B string victories with Edgar-Hill taking B 400m hurdles honours and placing second in the sprint hurdles although Schofield’s win came in the B discus – she was second in the A 400m hurdles event. There was an excellent sprint relay win. Lisa Schofield, Nicola Hill and Esther Tele set up Lydia St Ange with a winning lead which she successfully defended. A series of fine second places boosted the squad’s tally. Zoey Littlechild and Gemma Phillips braved the torrid conditions to post second places in 1500m and Phillips was also second in the A 3000m in her first attempt at the distance. B string second places went to Cheki Onwuka who smashed her 100m PB in the fine conditions, Jade Edwards who was second in the B 800m despite returning from holiday felling under the weather, Esther Tele who made her league debut with long jump runners up spot. Lydia St Ange equalled her 100m PB for third and Sam Hill added throws third places while Angela James was close to her high and triple jump PBs. The men produced another powerful display although below strength in the middle distance events and throws. Sprinters Charlie Moss and Joe Ramie both came through for victory in the A & B 100m, both clocking PBs. They also improved their fastest times at 200m but both lost out – Moss to English School’s 400m silver medallist Markus Hunt who clocked a PB of 21.9s to Moss’s 22.2s while Ramie lost out in a close finish with him and the winner both recording 22.7s. Ramie was also second in the triple jump. Anthony Williams and Jack Edgar-Hill were one-two in a combined A&B string hurdles race. Williams shrugged off an injury to clock close to his PB with 15.3s while 15-year-old Edgar-Hill ran an excellent 15.8s in his second attempt at the junior event – only three U17s have run faster in Britain this summer. It takes him to equal sixth on the club U20 all time list and is probably the best-ever by a club U17. Williams added a B string triple jump win and was second in the A long jump. A hastily assembled sprint relay squad – after Moss & Williams withdrew with strains - of Lazaro Tom Foskett, Edgar-Hill and Ramie were a worthy second in a fast 45,5s Bonne Buwembo had a comfortable javelin victory. Adam McCarthy had a great day winning the B pole vault and improved his 400m hurdles PB for A string second, and was also second in the B javelin. Craig Moore won both B hammer & discus events and set a 400m PB and was third in the high jump. The busy Jay Ryan capped a day of quality performances with a pole vault PB of 3.60m for second, as well as placing in the high jump, discus, hammer and shot. Callum Sutton raced well for second in the 3000m and Vince Lazaro was second in the B long jump. U17s Chris Lowe & Keiran Nelson completed the line wih middle distance & 400m points. Although middle distance and throws absences on the day cost dear it was the team’s fifth place & low points score at Ipswich in round 1 which lost them the final place. |
