The National Junior League squad put up a much better show finishing third at Sandy, Bedfordshire

The strong men’s team were in good form, notching up nine individual wins and both relays and leading throughout before league leaders Stevenage overtook them in the final few events.

Josh Olawore headed the starring cast with two wins and a second place. Three jumps over seven meters ensured long jump victory before he battled with training partner Jack Edgar-Hill in the combined A & B hurdles event, coming through for victory as Edgar-Hill took the B honours, both athletes taking advantage of the strong following wind to clock career best times. Josh also added almost two metres to his shot best for runners up spot.

There was another hurdles double in the one-lap event as George Hadler won the A string and Adam Wileman claimed B string full points. Wileman also won the B triple jump and added shot & discus points.  Another track double came in the 1500m where Josh Conners and Ed Thompson won A & B victories and Hoseah Gikungu dominated the 3000m event for another middle distance win.

Second place points came from javelin thrower Pat Lear and Richard Holland in the B long jump, with third placings claimed by Massi Dendani (800m), Jake Nelson (triple jump & B Hammer) and Danny Wilson (discus), while Jon Seekings was fourth in the B 400m.

The sprint relay squad of Richard Holland, Josh Olawore, Jack Edgar-Hill and Robbie Clarricoats won in a fast time before the 4x400m quartet of George Hadler, Danny Wilson, Richard Holland and Massi Dendani won from the front to end a successful day.

The ladies were lacking in numbers but turned in some good results. Debbie Knight won both the shot and javelin, and her win with the spear in very windy conditions which was close to her best won her the athlete of the match award,

Mercy Gutteridge marked her league debut with pole vault victory and Georgie Taylor also marked her first appearance in the league with a win in the B shot and was second in 400m and her discus speciality. Beth Chambers won the triple jump despite run up problems and was also third in the long jump and fourth in the high jump.

Laura Drew was second in the hammer and B discus and third in the B javelin and Nina Olatunbosun improved her 100m and long jump bests for two third places.
