Havering Mayesbrook young athletes made good use of home advantage when they overcame a strong challenge from City of Norwich and Medway & Maidstone, after the lead changed hands several times throughout the afternoon . The girls’ team dominated their match and the boys’ team although in third place stayed close enough in touch with the opposition to secure an overall victory.

Chloe Van Wulven was again in the limelight as she equalled Claire Sargent’s u17 80m hurdles record of 11.7 secs despite running into a strong breeze before clearing a new high jump PB of 1.70m to go equal second on the club all-time list, alongside Kate Brewington who only recently achieved this mark. Chloe also went onto win the B long jump for a triple success, and her u17 team mates contributed a further 13 victories. Her hurdles partner Danielle Ross easily took the B string, as well as winning the A string shot. There was also a 300m hurdles double as Nicola Schofield set a season’s best in the A event, while O’Sullivan was  close to her best in the B event before going on to partner Van Wulven to a high jump double. Megan Foley and Natalie Adams doubled up for 1500m victory, while Lynsey Clark and Hayley Charman combined for a discus double. Amy Rogers won the A javelin and there were B string successes for Robyn Delivett (300m), Helen Roche (800m) and Caroline Smith (shot).

The u15 girls were equally as dominant racking up 13 wins with sprint pairing of Lucy Sargent and Lauren McVicar each contributing three, adding the long jump (Lucy) and javelin (Lauren) to their 100m & 200m double.  They also combined with Lisa Schofield and Amie Adams in a winning relay foursome. Lisa also won 75m hurdles, recovering from hitting a hurdle hard, and high jump B, while Amie won the B 800m. Lauren Clark was in winning form, clearing a new high jump PB of 1.41 before winning the discus A, where she was able supported by Lauren Newton. Katie Richardson completed the winning hand by winning the 800m A.

The youngest age group, the u13s, also contributed to the girls’ success although only Catrina McAuliffe (800m) and Louise Wood B shot, tasted victory.

Although missing several team members the boys scored well.

The u17s recorded eight victories with the 4x400m quartet’s win in the final event a fitting tribute to a good day’s work. The win was not unexpected as Andrew Bartlett & Joe Golding had earlier won a 400m double, and Andrew Meech had won the 800m, in which the fourth relay team member Danny Skelt was runner up in the B event. Terry O’Leary and Harry Tyler made it a A &B javelin double while Joe Forde exceeded 40m in the hammer for the first time to win.

The u15 boys also contributed eight wins with four in the middle distance events with victories from Ashley Reece (800m & 1500), Brad Tungatt (800m B), and Ross Clarke (A 3000m). Other track wins came from Gary Tonks (200m B) and newcomer Uzoma Nnjuiba in the 80m hurdles. Chris Van Rissell took the B javelin honours, while Jay Ryan won the B high jump.

The u13 boys were in fine form with seven wins, with an 800m/1500m clean sweep. Matt Bloy again improved in winning the 800m with Joe Webster a clear B string winner, while Steve McLachlan and Grant Twist made it a 1500m double, with Grant again improving his PB. David Creedon won a B 100m & 200m double and he combined with Joe Webster, Matt Bloy and Danny Tyler for sprint relay success.
