National Young Athletes’ League, Southern Premier Division  Harrow, 6th June 2004

A host of excellent performances marked a second place performance by the combined boys' and girls' team in their Southern Premier National Young Athletes League Round 2 Fixture at Harrow on Sunday.

The star performance came from the improving Bone Buwembo who took another big step forward when he added 5 metres to his javelin PB to throw 49.85m smash the club u15 record dating from 1966. But it was only good enough for 2nd as the Aldershot thrower Jamie Brodie sent the spear out 2ms further, winning him the Boys' Field Athlete of the Match. Bone has gone from raw beginner to potential English Schools' finalist in under two months.

The girls' Field honour went to Chloe Van Wulven, who equalled her high jump PB of 1.70, also taking both 80m and 300m hurdles events. Megan Foley won the girls' best Track Athlete award for her 2:14.9s time for 800m, and also added B 300m. The u17 girls again dominated their age group. Lauren McVicar was a three-times winner with wins in the 100m, 300m and javelin, as was Lisa Schofield who won A long jump and both hurdles B strings, versatile Katie Richardson who doubled up with a 3000m winning PB as well as B long jump success, and Robyn Matson, Louise Yard and Emma Christmas, who won 1500m (B), shot A and javelin B. McVicar, Van Wulven, Schofield and Richardson finished the day unbeaten as they added full points in the relay.

For the u17 men Michael Waller carved chunks off his PB to win the 400m, and Ashley Reece comfortably won the 1500m, after placing a close 2nd in the 800m. On the field there were PBs for Joe Forde (hammer), Harry Tyler (javelin), Christian Newton (Discus) and Anthony Williams (long jump), although all of them gave second best to the home athletes, although Alex van Ristell won the B javelin.

The u15 girls notched up four wins against strong opponents. Bethan Siddons cleared 1.50 for a new PB and high jump win,  Lauren Newton took B discus honours and Catrina McAuliffe won the B hurdles. Charlotte Humphreys took three seconds off her 800m PB but had to settle for 2nd. In the u15 boys age group Eugene Ayanful equalled his PB in winning the 100m, while Matt Bloy and Paul Adair won both 800m strings.

In the youngest u13 age groups Lilla Jacks had a good sprint double, and Rebecca Clements made it double success in the shorter 75m sprint, while double shot victories were gained by Jessica Humphreys and Georgia Davies. For the boys Harrison Ellis was the only winner with his shot win.

Overall the girls were clear winners while the boys placed third, as the team were second to runaway hosts Harrow. The third round matches take place on 27June, when HMAC travel to Norwich.
