National Young Athletes’ League, Southern Premier Division  Norwich, 27th June 2004

Final Combined result:

1st Windsor SE & H

495 points

2nd  City of Norwich

382 points

3rd  Havering Mayesbrook

308 points

4th  Medway &Maidstone

276 points

Bone Buwembo was the star turn as he added three metres to his own u15 javelin best when he threw 52.62m at Norwich on Sunday. His performance was 10th best all time by a UK u15 and not surprisingly won him the athlete of the match award. The weakened team finished third on 308 behind the awesome might of table-topping Windsor SE & H who ran out winners with a massive 495 points, ahead of previously unbeaten hosts Norwich (382) and ahead of Medway & Maidstone on 276 pts.

With the u17 girls missing many of their star names competing at Bedford & Ipswich it was left to Louise Yard and Katie Richardson to provide first place honours. Louise has a comfortable shot victory before winning the B discus - with her partner Lauren Clark, who is unable to run her favoured track events due to a foot injury at present, throwing a discus PB for A string 2nd. Katie eased to 1500m glory and also ran a fast 300m and long jumped.

New find Carl Patten was a double winner for the u17 men, taking the triple jump by one-and-a-half metres with a massive 13.10m, an the long jump with 5.80m. Anthony Williams partnered him to win the B long jump in a new PB and went on to set PBs in the 100m hurdles and high jump. Ashley Reece was way out front for his 1500m victory and went close to a double as he was edged out in the two-lap event in a fast time.

Sprinter Frankie Calder provided the only victory for the u15 girls but her success came on the field as she took the A shot event, after finishing runner-up in both sprints to the impressive Windsor athlete. There were PBs for Catrina McAuliffe in the 75m hurdles and Ingrid Deane in the unfamiliar long jump.

For the u15 boys Alex van Ristell's own javelin PB almost went unnoticed in the wake of Bone Buwembo's massive club record, and the only winning points came from Bradley Reece in the B discus and Joe Webster in the 800m B.

Georgia Davies starred for the u13 girls, with a winning PB in the 1200m to go into the club all-time top ten, and also added maximum shot points for good measure. Lilla Jacks had to settle for second in both 75m and 150m sprints but had the satisfaction of setting new personal records in both, with times ranking her in the club top five best times.

In the youngest boys u13 age group Simon Brown and Jack Richardson took both A & B 1500m honours, and Harrison Ellis was a convincing winner in the shot.

With three of the five fixtures completed the team are safe in the top half of the table, and next time out on 18th July have home advantage.
