Mayesbrook Arena hosted a match of the highest quality on Sunday as the young athletes team took on the top two unbeaten clubs in the Southern Premier Division, Harrow and Blackheath & Bromley. Inevitable points were hard to come by but the squad emerged with credit and finished well clear of fourth place Tonbridge in a match where third was always going to be their best placing.

On a day when victories were few the U17 Men led the way with five wins. Two were earned by Anthony Williams who had a came from behind for 100m hurdles success and made it a double with a high jump win.  On the field Bonne Buwembo improved his PB to win the javelin - but too late to gain selection for the English Schools Champs - with Cafer Gunay making it a javelin double with B victory. The fifth win came from Ashley Reece who won the B high jump. Track second places went to Chris Clements (B100m), Brian Gaisie (B200m) and Paul Adair & Matt Watkins (A & B 800m). Field events runners up spots went to the triple jump duo of Nat Senior & Vincent Lazaro, and Craig Moore (discus).

The u15 boys recorded four wins, three in the middle distance event. Southern Champion Mat Bloy, who currently tops the  UK rankings was a worthy 800m victor, while there was a 1500m double from Daniel Winters & Simon Brown. Bradley Reece returned from injury and threw well to gain maximum hammer points. There was more middle distance success as second place points were gained by James Ridout (800m B) and the 3000m pairing of Grant Twist and Joe Webster. Twist also placed second in both the B hammer and high jump competitions.

English Schools bound Frankie Calder was the star turn for the u15 girls with a sprint double and shot second place points, and Bethan Siddons - who will also compete in the Schools event - took the high jump. Jennifer Holland leapt to second place in the B high jump and a runners up double went to Ingrid Deane & Georgia Davies in the 800m.

The u17 women were without Katie Richardson and it was left to Lauren Clark to record the only home victory in this age group with a PB in the 300m. An unwell Lisa Schofield was not at her best in the 300m hurdles, placing second, and she had to give second best to Southern Champion Serita Solomon in the 80m hurdles.

Runners up placings were achieved by Kathy Yoka (100m B), Hayley Thomas (3000m B), Lauren Newton & Amie Adams (both javelin). Yoka set a new triple jump PB for 3rd and Adams was 2nd in the B event.

In the youngest age group, the U13s, only Eleanor Bounds & Sidnie Sales who made it a 1200m double top top points, while the boys failed to register a victory.  Michael Jones came close in the 800m but was pipped in a tight finish, and Robert Lofthouse's long jump second place was the only other boys' runners up spot. For the girls Alex Edwards & Simbiat Salami were both 2nd in the 75m.
