Havering Mayesbrook athletes competed in appalling weather conditions at Croydon on Sunday as torrential rain came close to halting the proceedings. To the great credit of all concerned the competition went ahead but it was little consolation to the local side who finished last of the four clubs and now prop up the table.

Nicola Hill was a triple winner for the u17 girls winning 80m hurdles, long jump  & B 100m and her efforts won her the female track athlete of the match award. There were five other winners in this age category as Lauren Newton won the A discus, and four B string successes through Frankie Calder’s 300m hurdles PB, Catrina McAuliffe’s 80m hurdles win, and long jump and javelin wins for Kathy Yoka and Carla Schofield.

There was strong showing from the u13 boys, who finished second in their category.  Ben Western won a long jump A & 200m B double, Harry Picking added the B 200m, while the hurdles pairing of Frederick Mokoso and Jonathan Seekings also scored maximum points.

The U15 girls also placed second thanks to good team work. Winning performances came from Sam Hill & Nicole Dalton in the discus and Kike Oniwinde in the javelin.

The U15 boys had four winners as John Whitehead (800m B), Georgie Bean (A javelin), and the 1500m duo of Simon Brown & Callum Sutton came up trumps

Eugene Ayanful supplied the only A string success for the u17 Men, but Craig Moore (Discus) and Cafer Gunay (javelin) added B string wins.

Rebecca O’Neill was again a winner for the u13 girls, taking the A string 800m, with Nicola Peachey’s B string win making it double delight in this event. All-round talent Peachey also added an A 70m hurdles victory.

But the defeat leaves the club all to do in the final three fixtures if they are to avoid losing their premiership status.
