The
NYAL team put aside their disappointing first two results with a strong
second place at Bromley on Sunday as fine conditions triggered a glut of
PBs. The
U17s did much to ensure the squad's success as both men & women scored
seven wins. For the men Matt Bloy recorded an 800m/1500m double, Chris
Warden won both hurdles events, and set a high jump PB, with other
victories from Rob Jones (1500m B), Grant Twist (3000m A) and Vincente
Lazaro (LJ). For
the women there was a double Frankie Calder the 300m A/ 300m hurdles (PB),
with Nicola Hill winning the 300m hurdles A in the third fastest ever by a
club u17. Other u17 wins went to Bethan Siddons (HJ), Jade Edwards (1500m
B), Georgie Sales (3000m) and Lauren Newton (B discus). The 4x300m quartet
of Alex Beard, Jade Edwards, Ingrid Deane, and Georgie Sales set an
inaugural club record in this new event, placing 2nd. There
was also a very strong showing from the u13s. Ben Western was in great
form winning the long jump & gaining PBs in both sprints. Harry Picking’s 100m PB won him the B event and A string
victories went to Jake Nelson
(high jump) and Fred Mokoso (75m hurdles). The
4x100m quartet of Mokoso, Picking, Western and Connor Mullen just held on
for victory in the relay with their fastest ever clocking. For
the u13 girls the middle distance duo of Eleanor Bounds and Rebecca
O’Neill again came up trumps with wins in the 800m and 1200m
respectively. Nicola Peachey’s 800m PB won her the B event and
she also won the B long jump. Newcomer Chelsey Walker caught the
eye with 75m & long jump PBs and an excellent relay leg and there PBs
for Emma Washbourne’s (75m & 150m), Rebecca O’Neill (150m &
shot) and Peachey again (hurdles). There
was excellent support from the u15s. Jess Humpheryes provided the only u15
girls victory but the good conditions brought sprint PBs for Alex Edwards
(100m) and the 200m duo of Rebecca Clements &Leah Summers, while
Nicole Dalton earned a pair of field events PBs. For
the u15 boys Southern champion Georgie Bean again starred with a javelin
win, with Bradley Burr taking the B javelin
honours, and also winning the B discus. Gabriel Makinwa added a B long
jump win. A series of solid second & third placed results piled
up the points for the cause. The
second place finish was a fine reward for a day of excellent team spirit
& commitment from those athletes who made the journey. Five
of the six age groups were second to the match winners and hosts,
Blackheath & Bromley, the u15 girls being the exception. It should lift the club above the bottom four
relegation places in the 16 team division with two fixtures remaining, the
next at home (Mayesbrook park) on 25th June.
