The Young athletes squad made it three wins in three fixtures but lost their top of the table slot as they shrugged off key absences to win a tricky fixture at Lewes on Sunday. The U17 women were badly hit by exams and other absence and just five athletes made the trip but they contributed seven wins and four of the five combined for a new club relay record as Jess Seekings, Nicola Peachey, Becky O’Neill and Holly Thomas set new club marks in the 4x 300m event. All had earlier posted individual victories with Holly wining 100m & 80m hurdles, Nicola winning 300m A & 80m Hurdles B, Becky the B discus, and Jess the B 300m hurdles. The fifth member of this age group Shelley Wilson also added a discus victory. The U15 girls added ten wins thanks to a powerful track display. Lucy Allen scored a sprint double and Michelle Fashanu (100m) and Debbie Knight (200m) supported well with B string wins. Amanda Blaxland won the 800m, Avril Loynes took the 1500m victory and Rylie Trott won the hurdles. Field events wins came by virtue of Debbie Knight’s javelin win, and b string victories for Becky Stanley (long jump) and Erin Baggs (discus). The U13 boys were almost unbeaten dropping just one point and win hat tricks went to Alex Law, Nathan Jackson, Jordan Fox, while Freddy Keefe contributed two wins and one win apiece for James Wright, Nick Wade, Chris Gell and Charles Hammond. Jordan, Nathan, Chris and Alex won the relay for good measure. The U17 men were missing key team members bout still performed strongly. There were full points in the 800m & 1500m as Joseph Waked (800m) and Jamie Buckley-Stanton (1500) won the A events and Massi Dendani won both B strings. Jack Edgar-Hill and Jon Seekings won the 100m hurdles A & B and Michael Lewis won the B 200m. Jake Nelson won both high jump & javelin, and Lewis Williams was the hammer winner. Glen Wileman won the B ‘chase and B shot and brother Adam the B triple jump. The U15 boys produced their best results of the season with 6 A wins and 5 B successes. Win doubles came from Ashley Purnell & Dan Wood (100m), Josh Connors & Finbar Smith (800m) and Ryan O’Mahoney & Dan Wilson (1500m). Dan Wilson also won the discus by a distance and set a hurdles PB. Ashley Purnell (again) and Patrick Lear won both javelin strings, Patrick Wilson won the hammer and Tyler Bennett won the B discus. Just three U13 girls made the trip south. Tomi Akingbade starred with a win in the 150m and Rebecca Fox and Thiziri Dendani added vital points.
