The Young Athletes’ squad saw off a strong challenge from hosts St Albans to make it four straight wins and strengthen their promotion chances on Sunday.

The U15 girls produced their best form this year. There were sprint maximum points thanks to Ricarda Chapman and Lucy Allen (100m) and Allen again and Annre Adewole (200m). Amanda Blaxland and Avril Loynes impressed with a 1500m double and Jess Fazakerley won the B 800 and the B high jump. Becky Lawrence won the A high jump and Annie Adewole took the A shot, and Avril Loynes the B discus. The relay squad of Ricarda, Annie, Lucy and Rylie Trott were victorious.

The U17 women bounced back after their low turn out in the last round.  Holly Thomas contributed a pair of wins in the 100m & 80m hurdles, and Nicola Peachey added B string wins in the same events. Becky O’Neill won the 800m and Patsy McWeeney took the A javelin honours. Jess Seekings (300m hurdles) , Katherine Knight (discus) and Kelly Jarrold (long jump) added B string victories. For the second successive league meeting Jess, Nicola, Becky and Holly improved the club u17 4x300m relay best mark.

The U17 men put up another strong showing. An A string track wins came by virtue of Jamie Buckley-Stanton (1500), while track doubles came from Jack Edgar Hill & Jake Nelson (100mH),  Nelson (again) and Jon Seekings (400m hurdles) and a Michael Lewis double in the B 200 & 400m. A clean sweep of A string field wins came from Laurence Goodacre (Shot), Brad Burr (discus & javelin) and Lewis Williams (hammer).

The U13 boys displayed another powerhouse effort. Alex Law provided a trio of A wins in the 200m, hurdles & long jump, and another hat trick of wins came from Chris Gell in the B string 100m, 200m and hurdles. Freddy Keefe & Thomas Pitkin added a 1500m double and Sean Wilson scored maximum points in the B 800m.  Jordan Fox doubled up with 100m A & high jump wins and Sean Wilson (B high jump) and Lewis Middleton (long jump) completed the individual win tally. Lewis, Jordan, Chris & Alex combined for relay victory.

The U15 boys scored useful points for the cause but had limited victories. Ryan O’Mahoney and Thomas Davis had a win double in the 1500m and Danny Wilson added a customary discus win. The five U13 girls who made the trip was an improvement on the last round but needed support from their absent colleagues. Full marks go to Phoebe Maloney, Thiziri Dendani, Becky Fox, Abigail Spink and Georgie Taylor for their efforts on the day.
