The National Young Athletes League marked their return to the Premier Division with a runners up spot in dismal wet conditions at Lee Valley on Sunday.

The Under 17 Women scored strongly with four wins and five second places. Nicola Peachey won the sprint hurdles, with Rylie Trott second, and Nicola was second in both 300m hurdles and long jump. Another one-two came from Deborah Knight whose javelin PB brought her victory and Patsy McWeeney who was second. Patsy also took the 3000m honours.  Sophie Baggs won the discus and there were second places for Becky Lawrence (high jump) and  Becky Stanley who was second in both 800m and 1500m. The 4x300m relay team of Nicola Peachey, Becky Lawrence, Jess Seekings and Deborah Knight were also runners up.

The under-strength Under 15 Girls scored well on the field but found points hard to come by against strong track opposition. The powerful duo of Georgie Taylor and Rachel Forder monopolised the throws with one-twos in the discus and javelin and good points in the shot. Mercy Gutteridge was runner up in the pole vault, equalling her best and Tomi Akingbade was second in the high jump. Avril Loynes produced the best track result with her 1500m runners up position.

The Under 17 Men produced four victories and five second places.  Dale Marks-Swain's strong finish brought him 400m victory and he led off the winning 4x400m squad combining with Jon  Seekings, Dan Wood and Danny Wilson for victory. Adam Wileman snatched steeplechase second in the last few strides to clock a new PB.  Jake Nelson and Harry Phillips produced a one-two in the high jump and Andrew Kerr won the hammer and was second in the pole vault, while Danny Wilson was second in the discus.

Billy Bilton was the only winner for the Under 15 boys taking the hurdles honours, as Alex Law was second, and Billy was also javelin runner up. The pair joined with Oliver Garwandoe and Nathan Jackson for second in the sprint relay.  Other second spots came from Nick Duffey in the 1500m and Alex Habbershaw in the long jump.

Ryan Green impressed with 800m victory for the Under 13 boys. Second place points were gained by Alex Hewitt in both sprints and Robert Woodgate in the 1500m. The sprint relay team of Sam Dell, Sam Chapman, Ryan Green and Alex Hewitt were second.

The Under 13 girls team featured several debutants who tasted league competition for the first time.  Heidi Surman-Wells was runner up in the 800m and Amy Baggs placed second in the shot.
