The National Young Athletes League team took a step towards a place in the Southern Regional Final with victory at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham on Sunday. A strong all-round performance saw off first round winners Woodford and a strong Norwich squad to come home in front by 60 points The Under 17 Men led the way providing winners in eight of the ten individual track events and taking the 4x400m relay honours to round off the day in style. Dale Marks-Swain came from behind in the 400m for victory and Massi Dendani & Ryan O’Mahoney made it a on two in the 800m before O’Mahoney added 1500m honours too. The trio joined with Danny Wilson for 4x400m success. Hoseah Gikungu led from gun to tape for 3000m success as did Adam Wileman just held on to win the 1500m steeplechase after winning the sprint hurdles in a new PB. Jon Seekings improved his PB for maximum points in the 400m hurdles. On the field Andrew Kerr cleared a new PB of 3.20m for pole vault victory and Josh Olawore & Adam Wileman (again) made it a triple jump one-two. Jake nelson was second in the long jump. The Under 17 Women scored notched up five individual victories and set a new 4x300m relay record as Nicola Peachey, Becky Stanley, Debbie Knight and Holly Thomas sliced three seconds off the previous club best to come home in front. Thomas again starred as she won both 80m hurdles and long jump and was second in the 200m, while Peachey was second in the 300m hurdles. Field events wins were secured by Erin Baggs in the discus and Annie Adewole in the shot, with hard-working pole vault victor Becky Lawrence placing second. Debbie Knight was second in the javelin and Laura Drew runner up in the hammer. The Under 15 Girls duo of Georgie Taylor and Rachel Forder once again cleaned up with first and second places in shot, discus & javelin. Lydia Hallam front-ran to 800m victory and runners up slots went to Bethany Chambers (200m), Avril Loynes (1500) and Tomi Akingbade (high jump) There were three track wins for the Under 13 girls team. Heidi Surman-Wells won the 800m and was a second in the hurdles. Emma Whitby won the 75m sprint and was just pipped in the 150m. Abbie Spinks was a good winner of the 1200m and Amy Baggs took second place in the shot. There were just two wins for the Under 15 boys. Ben Thompson returned to club action with a shot victory and second places in discus and hammer. Oliver Garwandoe made a winning pole vault debut and the 4x400m squad of Nathan Jackson, Alex Habbershaw, Nick Duffey and Ben Thompson came home in front.. There was a clutch of runners up places as Karl Tucker was second in both 80m hurdles and high jump, Alex Law was second in the long jump and Billy Bilton second in the javelin. Sean Wilson was the sole Under 13 boys winner in the high jump and there were second place points for Alex Hewitt in the 100m. |
