English National Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill 25 February 2012

Lauren Deadman confirmed her recent fine form with a ninth place finish in the senior women's race at the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday - her best placing since her fifth place finish at the same venue in 2009.

Lauren went with the early pace, leading the charge from the start and staying in the leading group in the early stages before dropping back in a race won by Charnwood’s Gemma Steel in a sprint finish from Steph Twell (Aldershot) and Sonia Samuels (Sale).  Behind Lauren after her quiet start to the winter season, Faye Fullerton was a respectable 18th.  Jane Hallam also completed the tough course in 487th of the 650 finishers but late-arriving Angie Thompson dropped out.

The senior men’s race had over seventeen hundred athletes on the start line with Rob Warner and Matt Bland the only two Havering Mayesbrook runners to take part. Warner ran well in a strong field to come home in 191st place with Bland taking 383rd, with over thirteen hundred finishers behind him.

Lydia Hallam led home the 23rd placed Under 15 girls in 68th with Heidi Surman-Wells 112th, Four other U15s competed to gain a taste of the “National” experience. Rebecca ward (193rd) and Robbie Nunn (267th) were the scorers and Louise Lear (274th) and Zoe Rudgeley (310th) in reserve.
