English National Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill 21 February 2015

The ever-challenging Parliament Hill course was worse than ever at Saturday's National Cross Country Championship as recent heavy rain ensured a mud-bath for competitors.

The Under 15 girls have been in good form this winter and were the highest placed club team in 21st, and were first Essex team home. Kate O'Neill led the squad home in 40th place in her first National while another debutant Sophie Rand placed a fine 70th place. Becca Brown (187th) & Catherine Barker (327th) completed the scoring quartet and Grace Macleod & Amelia Day also tasted National action.

The Under 15 boys continued their recent good results with 26th place as Oliver Bath (149th) got the better of Jack Rice (154th) and Lewis Debenham (185th) & Sam Atkins (242nd) completed the scoring four. Oliver Woods was 105th to lead the Under 13 boys to 29th team position with the young team of Ellis Osborne (163rd), Alex Ford (224th), Henry Lay (268th) & Ben Naish (281st) all benefitting from competing at this level.

The Under 13 Girls once again had an impressive turn out with 11 finishers as the scoring quartet were 42nd. Grace Dukelow was respectable 127th with Molly Sweetman 231st, with Molly Bath and Kate Walker the other scorers. There was great team spirit from Milli Lewis (345th), Lily Bath (350th), and Ella King, Chloe Morter, Hannah Paton, Charlotte Wright and Jessica James wall placed between 413th & 426th.

Four Senior Men braved the quagmire like course. Rob Warner was first Havering runner home in 200th place of over 2,000 finishers, followed by Matt Bland 480th, Jason Crispin 813th and Russ Middleton 1216th with all saying it was one of the worst races they had ever been in.

Sarah Wilson continued her comeback with 72nd place in the Under 17 women's event with Zoe Rudgley 226th, while Bella Woods (75th) and James Stewart  (251st) flew the club flag alone in the Under 20 Women's and Under 17 men's races.
