The joint Men's & Women's Southern League squad achieved hard-fought third place finish in their final match at Southampton on Saturday to earn another season in the top flight.

Isaac Ogunlade who has been in excellent recent form, improving his 200m PB a few days earlier, here gave a fine solo display to win the 400m hurdles & also won a much closer 200m. He also contributed the fastest 4x400m leg with a fine 48.4 secs clocking.  Paul Adair showed that he has put his injuries behind him as he front ran his way to 800m victory, added 1500m third place points and anchored the 4x400m squad to third.

Josh Olawore was second in the A 100m before aggravating a back injury on take-off in the long jump, which he would have been expected to win, and had to withdraw from his other events. Jeremy Watson battled against the strong headwind to finish second in the 110m hurdles and added triple jump and shot points, as well as contesting both relays.

Jon Seekings competed for the first time this season and showed his training has paid off as he smashed his 400m hurdles & 400m flat bests, placing runner up in the hurdles B event. Jamie Buckley-Stanton continues his return to fitness with a season's best in placing second in the 800m B competition, and clocked a useful time in his first 5000m track race too.  Jason Lendon jogged round in the 5000m for a point before placing third in his steeplechase speciality in a new PB, while Ian Anthony also covered a B 'chase gap for a point after his main 1500m efforts.

John Adekoya had a busy day contesting all three jumps, with his best results being second in the B triple jump, the 200m where he clocked a new PB, and ran the opening leg in the sprint relay. Arron Bonning was again heavily involved in the field events, equalling his best this year in the vault for third - with timeless Stuart Tufton second in the B - as well as a javelin season's best, for another third.

Lewis Middleton seta  new 400m best in placing third in the B string and also added a high jump point and Sam Harrison's hammer effort was a season's best and he continued with his other throwing events despite a neck strain. Karl Tucker added 100m B point and ran in the sprint relay as did Jack Edgar-Hill who had failed to finish in his main sprint hurdles event.

For the women Claire Brennan won the 100m hurdles for the only A string track success and added runners up spots in both B vault & discus and third in the 400m hurdles.  Georgie Taylor comfortably won the discus and was second in the shot and the 400m where she finished strongly set a new PB.

Ellie Watson scored well, taking maximum points in a B string long & triple jump double and was runner up in the B high jump & 100m hurdles. Vicky Smith's strong finish won the B 800m on another busy day that saw her begin by covering a 400m hurdles gap for second, adding a season's best in the 1500m for another runners-up spot and placing third in the ‘chase in a time close to her best. Another win came in the B ‘chase where Tee Quinlivan stepped in to fill a gap & took full points, after earlier equalling her outdoor best to place second in the vault in her return from injury.

Sarah Wilson ran strongly to place second in the 800m and was the fastest of the 4x400m squad of Claire, Georgie & Louise Lear - Louise had earlier made her 400m debut for third and had jumped into the club all-time triple jump Top 20 with a fine PB that placed her third.

Zoe Young was second in all four of her individual events - the long jump, high jump, shot & javelin and also ran well in the sprint relay. Emma Christmas was second in the A javelin and added points to the cause in the hammer & 100m and also took part in the relay. Middle distance points were added by Gemma Phillips & Mo Lear in the 3000m and by Clare Davies with a big PB in the 1500m.

In the sprints Lucy Allen pulled on a club vest for the first time in three years in the 200m & relay and Rachel Kerr continued her return to fitness in both sprints & relay.

The third place finish - just five points shy of Portsmouth and comfortably ahead of Harrow - ensured that the club placed mid-table in ninth as Harrow were relegated despite scoring more match points than Havering over the five rounds.
